Their argument would have some merit if immunity to corona viruses was "once exposed/immunized then forever immune". Unfortunately this is not true for many other corona viruses and we just don't know for COVID-19. If it were, the "common cold" corona viruses (part of seasonal colds) would have gone away millennia ago. As such it would mean annual/seasonal wide exposure of the population to COVID-19 and the concomitant morbidity/mortality.

I worked with these SARS viruses and they mutate. Consequently, the only immunity a person may achieve is the that for the initial virus that they contracted. The upside is that any mutated reinfection would probably have much milder effects.
