The documentary of Michael Nelms, an Oregon man who became homeless and instead of living under a bridge decided to walk off into the Oregon's wilderness and make his way in the wild. The footage used was entirely filmed by himself to document his thoughts, hardships, skills and life in the wild. For the firearm aficionados here he took with him an SKS and two handguns though the only gunplay was dispatching a snared coyote for dinner.
The footage centers around one particularly hard winter, but it appears he lived at least 8 years successfully in the Oregon wilderness. This is 1 of only two stories I know of someone sucesfully doing this and even more interesting to see Oregons wilderness at play. I cannot find any other information of him other than this film.
Official trailer.

Sit around hunting campfires over the years and occasionally the subject comes up if one could live hidden in the woods, the skills needed and gear.... While the thought is entertaining conversation perhaps the biggest overlooked hardship to overcome is, the loneliness.

About an hour and half, a very good watch that puts life in perspective.
