Styrofoam actually makes for an amazing insulation material....
Adding the reflective material is the biggest payback for retaining heat. Instead of being absorbed by the adjacent material, it reflect the emitted heat backwards. Columbia Sportswear does this with their coats/hats and boots now.

I see they seem to have the "roof" as two segments with a seam in the middle, such that the panel does not have to bend as much.

Two things I would see something like this as useful:

1) Temp shelter for people in general if SHTF - e.g., I have a 2K SF shop that is partially insulated, fully enclosed, but it gets cold inside in the winter because there is no source of heat. If the "big one" hit, I might want to provide shelter from wind/rain inside my shop for neighbors, myself, my family, etc. - having multiple 'igloos' like this would be something that would be an inexpensive and warm sleeping area.

2) A 'hidey-hole' in the woods - maybe bury a concrete culvert (sealed up) with supplies/etc. and several of these for warmth to sleep in.

Think socialism may have contributed to there being so many homeless in France?

Hey, socialism works...to create homeless people in abundance.
Of course it works. After all, private property and means of production belongs to the Socialist State right?

Edit; I'm more concerned at the durability... its not exactly "green" when we do have a problem with styrofoam trash being dumped and left in the environment...

The
I have for some time wished for an inexpensive lightweight 'personal shelter' that was warm and waterproof.

Not sure what styrofoam they used that was bendable like that, but should SHTF, these would maybe be good temporary shelters.

The video in post #5 says the material is polyethylene foam. Styrofoam, I think, is polystyrene.
