So read this...

13. [Prohibits] Possession, use or display on University property of any firearms, weapons, fireworks, live ammunition, incendiary devices, or other items that are potentially hazardous to members of the campus community.''

The individual that stopped the shooter violated this article (thank God) by at least carrying and using pepper spray on the shooter...he broke the rules and saved lives by not being a helpless victim...

This is why CARRY should be allowed on campuses...

<- Why there aren't any school shootings in Israel!
Teacher with long gun slung over her shoulder!!!

The "individual" was a student security guard and was probably authorized to carry the pepper spray.

"A gun is like a parachute. If you need one and don't have it, you'll probably never need one again!"

This story reminded me of the "Run, Hide, Fight" video put out a few years ago. The hero of the story didn't cower behind a desk waiting to be shot he took the offensive and took the attacker out. Excellent job.

I quoted the student handbook on KATU, and said that the shooting was impossible because guns aren't allowed on campus. KATU deleted my comment :(

SPU shooting: Mayor blames 'epidemic of gun violence' but school a 'gun-free zone'

Anti-gun Seattle Mayor Ed Murray wasted no time trying to exploit yesterday's fatal shooting at Seattle Pacific University, but his remarks are being overshadowed by talk of heroics credited to a student who pepper-sprayed and physically took down the suspected shooter, identified this morning as Aaron Ybarra, who could make his first court appearance today.

When the shooting starts. It will not stop until somebody gets there with a gun.
What's so hard to understand about that?
Cops have been given the green light to carry guns. But we all have the god given right to defend ourselves.
If you don't want to carry a gun fine. Rely on your Shepard and take your chances.
These kids have just learned that experience is a cruel teacher. It gives the Test first, then the lesson.

Cleaning supplies; prescription drugs; tools such as hammers and screwdrivers; kitchen knives; pocket knives; many types of sporting equipment (bats & golf clubs); blunt objects. . . . . .

In Oregon, isn't it legal to carry concealed on campuses if you're licensed? I'm pretty sure it is.

According to this article the Oregon Supreme Court ruled the Oregon University System doesn't have the right to usurp state law. I don't know if anything has happened in the 3 years since this ruling, but I couldn't find anything stating so.

Oregon Court Overturns Campus Gun Bans
by David Burnett on September 29, 2011

MONMOUTH, September 29 – A state Court of Appeals has overruled an Oregon University System prohibition on carry of firearms.

The suit was brought by the Oregon Firearms Federation (OFF) after student Jeff Maxwell, a US Marine, was arrested for carrying a small derringer on campus. All charges were dropped, but Maxwell was suspended from the college for violating its rule against firearms.

The OFF then filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mr. Maxwell. (Maxwell was not a party to the suit due to a rule stating anyone involved in litigious action could not be involved in a dispute regarding the policy.)

Two years later, the Oregon Court of Appeals returned its verdict, stating that:

"[The college's policy] is an exercise of an "authority to regulate" firearms that is not expressly authorized by the Legislative Assembly, and that it is preempted by ORS 166.170. Accordingly, the rule exceeds the agency's authority, ORS 183.400 and is invalid."

Although the ruling overturns campus bans on carry, the court ruled only on grounds of institutional authority, not Second Amendment or state preemption.

Oregon Revised Statute ORS 166-170 states that "the authority to regulate in any matter whatsoever the sale, acquisition, transfer, ownership, possession, storage, transportation or use of firearms or any element relating to firearms and components thereof, including ammunition, is vested solely in the Legislative Assembly."

The Oregon University System comprises seven public universities, including the University of Oregon, Western Oregon University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Eastern Oregon University, Southern Oregon University, Portland State University and Oregon State University. In a statement of response, OUS stated they were "disappointed" with the ruling and would consider their options.

"Students for Concealed Carry is obviously pleased with the court's decision," said David Burnett, a spokesman for SCC. "It's ridiculous that a United States Marine trained to defend America's freedom with an M-16 on the streets of Fallujah can be suspended for carrying a tiny little pistol on campus. Colleges nationwide consistently fail to protect campus populations, yet flagrantly ban the fundamental right of citizens to protect themselves. We're happy with the ruling, and we look forward to similar victories in the near-future."

In July, Virginia Attorney-General Ken Cuccinelli ruled that blanket university gun bans are invalid, and on November 1, campus carry external to college buildings will become legal in Wisconsin.

Mother Jones also lists Oregon as state where you can conceal carry on campus.

If you walk around Capitol Hill (where SPU is located) like I do, time to time, you will see the most naive and ludicrous liberal weirdos in our country. The irony of it all is there is universities in much conservative states and cities that have the same draconian anti-gun laws. Boise State University in the freedom loving red state of Idaho has been very staunch advocates for gun prohibition in a city that is otherwise gun friendly. I never could understand it. Unfortunately, most colleges are run by the ultra liberal elite who seem to be supporters of control and promoting authoritarian rules.. I can say many college board governments are on a power trip. Colleges seem to be breeding grounds for liberalism and socialist indoctrination. It is unfortunate that this is the place that is suppose to produce our future generation of educated and productive citizens.

This is the whole deal here. Kids with strength of character stepped up to stop a shooter to protect their fellow students. As every single student there would tell you, the guys running TO the gunfire were protecting "their family," not cowering under desks hoping it would all go away.
