I was thinking about picking one up online and was considering if its worth it or not for a new concealed carry. I liked the manual safety on the makarov I carried but desire something in 9mm luger. Is there something newer that's worth it with a manual safety in a good brand, 9mm, that would be similar quality? Only other thing I thought of was Beretta 92 compact. Also any other benefit for carry on DAO other than not having a hammer snag against something? Thanks.

LTT Compact. Trigger is much better. Other then that, nothing if you have a good reliable gun.

I've looked into them for gunsmithing on a beretta I own, your right they do amazing work. I just am not looking to spend that much right now. It's why I was thinking of the S&W 6906 unless there's something else with a manual safety in 9mm that's a good compact option for carry for roughly $500ish. If not as long as no one says there's a major problem with this for carry I might go this route for now.

Compact 9mm carry guns aren't really all that popular right now. Going to be tough to find something, so if the Beretta or S&W doesn't work out for you, there's always the classy Lorcin L380.

Carry what's accurate and reliable. If you decided to carry a gun with a safety, make sure you practice with it.

That's what I do with my 92 I have as my nightstand gun (occasionally carry at the range but not really outside of it). I was just having a hard time finding online good carry guns with a manual safety without it being an article from NRA or somewhere. Ammo availability is only reason I'm moving from the makarov as I am extremely effective with it. Most people carry glocks and that's fine I just like the manual safety. Not against polymer or steel frame just was seeing if people thought it was still fine or if there's something new that's better with the same things I'm looking for at a similar price point but better part availability. Or if someone carried a 5906 and had some thoughts as online people like it though some have minor issues (nothing serious) unless I'm missing something.

I carried a 5904 as a duty gun and have used a 5906 as well. I shot it well; the DA pull on the ones I shot was fine, not amazing, but okay. The safety is very different from a regular 1911/M&P style being on the slide so that may or may not be a consideration. I am no longer fond of magazine disconnect safeties but that is a personal choice. One of the (department) guns had some issues with the extractor and I went through a few of those before all was good.

Holster availability might be an issue. I don't know if this is the case with the 69** guns, but the 59** series has two different trigger guards; one rounded and another for the old school finger on the front of the trigger guard (just in case you have hand the size of a Kodiak bear. This is another issue for holsters as I found out. Easy to clean and there are some parts and mags still out there. Hope that helps a little.

The 6906 would be a fine carry gun as long as deep concealment is not a priority (dress clothes, etc.). If so, a 365 with manual safety would be smaller.

The Beretta 92 compact is not much smaller than a full size 92.

Before buying a 6906 I'd make sure you can find a supply of 12 round mags. I would also have a gunsmith inspect it and give it new springs and a deep cleaning. Any 30 year old gun deserves that.

Buy the biggest pistol you will ACTUALLY carry every day. Nothing wrong with 9mm. I prefer striker fired with no safety (Not the P320). But I totally understand why someone would want a mechanical safety.

I think that the CZ P-01 is the class of that category.

For deep concealment I have a few single stacks that are thin for this. This is more for regular concealed carry. One I'm looking at has 4 mags I just need a holster and springs like you said. My makarov was my regular carry but I've needed to switch to something in 9mm luger that I don't need to order.

I was carrying the 92 compact while in Potland yesterday with 18 round mags. Having the gun is supposed to be comforting, not comfortable.
