I think that the CZ P-01 is the class of that category.
Thanks you for the recommendation ill check them out as well. I know people liked CZ didn't realize there was one in my category that was compact. Part availability was my biggest worry with the 6906 but I loved one I handled at a gun show, but this is worth glancing pricing and info too like the ltt was (ltt is not at all price I can do until after I move).

I was carrying the 92 compact while in Potland yesterday with 18 round mags. Having the gun is supposed to be comforting, not comfortable.
I agree only at one place I go I care for deep concealment, I don't really care if a store kicks me out if they notice (they shouldn't I always have been good at concealment but once someone did notice and complain).

I carry OWB, nobody should be noticing you. I carry around Eugene liberals on a regular basis in a T-shirt and shorts. The officer 1911 is the same dimensions, just a touch thinner.

I was thinking about picking one up online and was considering if its worth it or not for a new concealed carry. I liked the manual safety on the makarov I carried but desire something in 9mm luger. Is there something newer that's worth it with a manual safety in a good brand, 9mm, that would be similar quality? Only other thing I thought of was Beretta 92 compact. Also any other benefit for carry on DAO other than not having a hammer snag against something? Thanks.
It would take too long to list good 9mms with safeties. The list is endless. Sig, hk, Walther, s&w, arex, Sar, beretta, IWI, CZ off the top of my head and I'm missing tons of brands. Not even venturing into the models of each brand. Huge list.

Only time I got noticed I was playing pool and when I leaned in for a shot (pool obviously) other than then no one ever noticed. Regular life outside of that never did or had issues at all over the years.

Understood and agreed and why I can deal with a steel 1911 all day. But when it's light enough that it doesn't pull on your belt all day and still has enough "oomph" to end a fight in a hurry, that's NOT a bad thing.

6906 is a fine carry gun.
My first carry piece.
No idea re availability of 12 round mags.
I have more than enough.

I usually use the full size mag with a handle/grip extension.

If we are talking compacts with a safety it's hard to go wrong with a p365. Small, easy to shoot well, good trigger and sights, big capacity for its size. P365 is smallest, p365x is slightly bigger and has flat trigger and they get bigger from there for the various models. I carry the p365x often. I put the p365 frame on it (the frames are interchangeable and cost about $40 from sig or a bit more from wilson combat) for the purpose of having a smaller grip length (doesn't print as easily).

If you want to pocket carry I suggest a p938 in an Alabama holster. It's a mini 1911 basically and easier to shoot well than most small guns. Just a couple examples and there are tons of good ones out there. Arex zero compact is only $429 and bomb proof.

Kimber makes a double stack 9mm 1911. You might check out their site.. it's thinner than the Beretta 92 and is mid sized. Also, if you need really smal their Micro 9 is a good 1911 that will hold up to 8 in the magazine. I actually have one of those. I have all 3 different sized magazines, and they all function Flawllesly, I got mine new for less than 500 bucks. New.

I like the P-01 and the Beretta but I'm a DA/SA kind of guy. With either of those guns you can always grab the base gun now, and they will work fine. Then when you have the cash send them off to CZC or Langdon and have them make it into what you really want.

Finding holsters and replacement parts for a 30 year old gun may be done but you will not get much choice or a good price.
I can find good deals on a Shield that has a good aftermarket of parts and holsters available. I'm not trying to sell you a Shield but just a good example.
I have carried first gen S&W pistols, and the size and weight would have me looking at more modern carry options. DR

My first concealed carry firearm was a S&W 469 (this was the blued, double-stack, generation 2.5 version of the 6906). That was back in the 80's, not long after it came out.

Great firearm. Well made, easy to shoot and operate. Aluminum frame made it a little heaver (about 26 ounces) compared to today's polymer-framed, compact 9mm pistols.

I think the 6906 would still be an excellent concealed carry firearm.

There are currently produced DA/SA pistols around the same size as a 6906 with an external safety/decocker that are much lighter and some even having a greater capacity than 12-rounds. CZ P07 is one of my favorites.

Still, there is something to be said about the 3rd generation S&W pistols. They are beautiful.

Good luck with your search.

Are you sure you want a heavy all metal gun? I tried carrying a CZ-75D compact for a while and quickly went back to plastic fantastic guns! For me there was no reason to carry around so much weight with all the excellent polymer pistols available. I would recommend looking at something like a S&W M&P, PX4, Security 9, LC9, XD-E or the like if you want a safety?

Personally I am a big fan of the grip safeties on the Springfield XDx pistols. My first pistols were metal guns with decockers like my Beretta 92. It took a while to get comfortable carrying pistols with no safety but now I can't imagine going back to an active safety.

...just my thoughts.

I've carried a all metal gun before so it's not a big deal. I've carried makarov, beretta cheetah, pocket carried .38s etc. I just tend to prefer the manual safety. Not against polymer at all I own several full size polymer guns I just like the manual safety. Maybe in the future ill try the 19x or something but for now I love the manual safety when it's a option.

I highly recommend if going with P365 and a manual safety, that you ditch the inferior factory safety and go with an Armory Craft safety. Night and day difference. It's wide enough to actually use. Well worth the money IMHO.
