Long story short, a bunch of folks online used the stock market exactly like the corrupt hedge fund monopolies do to artificially make money.

When corporations do it to make millions even billions, it's ok.

Bunch of peasants get together online to completely change the game and artificially change the prices through group think and sharing info online, BAD VERY VERY BAD. EVERYONE MUST BE ARRESTED!!!

This should be interesting, seeing the rich scramble to make laws to prevent the poor from playing in their casino.

Thank you....I was not aware of that article.

That being said.......

I see it as, "Market Manipulation" and the "creative use" of social media to manipulate a stock. If the manipulators go to prison....well, so be it.

Hummm.......seems that we were sort of just talking about that in other threads. Yeah....about how Big Tech/Social Media use their ability to move the thinking of the people with their "Policy of TRUTH".

Anyway.....once again Thank You for the article.

For those that aren't too savvy in trading. Moral of this story.

Shorts, which is sort of a bet against a company, were used against Wallstreet hedge fund companies by online marketers. Online marketers are not considered true tradesman and women and they have always been frowned upon.

A guy saw that a company, Gamestop, had a ton of shorts vs shares. In other words, hedge fund folks knew the company is on its last legs and was betting it would soon go bankrupt, shorts in a sense work to make money from collapsing companies. Shorts are kind of like renting a share. They don't own the share, per say, but sort of rent it at a given percentage. If the price of the share goes up they lose money on the short and the owner makes money. If the price goes down, they make money off the short at a percentage of its value and the owner of the share loses money. Over long periods of time shorts can be a great way to make money on companies that are dying, like GameStop due to online streaming of games vs purchasing games.

Anyways, a guy saw this online. Created a group online to start buying shares, which creates a demand, raising the price of the shares at an exponential (some could say artificial) rate. Since there were more shorts than shares, those that bet against the shares saw a loss in their bet against GameStop in the amount of billions of dollars. While those that purchased shares via the Reddit group saw their values go up in terms of millions. Essentially creating a Robinhood effect, transferring millions or billions from the rich to the poor in the matter of hours.

Something the rich do not like!!!

I'm thinking it's a "shot across the bow" to Corporations that these groups of social media "activist investors" can F with your stock if you don't kneel to them. ?

But, I'll admit I'm a bit (ok a lot?) paranoid when it comes to the Stock Market Casino.

Hedge funders will see these guys as one more tool in their tool box. In fact, it's possible that is exactly what occurred this time. Some guy makes a huge bet and posts on social media to get everyone else aboard. Then they bail with a few million$.

In the video, Louis noted that evidence so far seems to indicate that most purchases are in small amounts. Doesn't mean someone won't try it or hasn't.

Sounds like it could be a plot from a James Bond movie....Casino Royale.

Rrrright......the plane fails and there is quick money to be made. Without even mentioning the dead bodies.

I am truly loving the response by a handful of the big brokers. They are crying all their way to their momma (aka big government).

It was suggested....a while back......with the banking crisis. That....short sellers should be required to actually have the stock to back up their bets. "Borrowing stock" would not allowed. That way, they (short sellers) couldn't/wouldn't be able to make their bets on the stock that they didn't actually own. Thus, less incentive to manipulate stock prices and the amounts of short contracts would be limited to the actual number of stocks available.

But.....I don't know anything so.....whatever.

Reddit just de-platformed (aka: banned) the group "Wall Street Bets".

PS....Gamestop is down 25% in after hours trading.

As a member of wallstreetbets. I can't log in anymore. Trying to contact a moderator to get back in. The big hedge fund players are crying to the SEC. screaming. No fair! . No fair ! I enjoy Playing the market when I see a good opportunity. I got in early on Moderna last February. Sold awhile back and did good. The messed up thing is. The big. Players get to manipulate markets in after hour trading. Us mere mortals have to wait till the markets open to see what scraps are left over
