There is nothing romantic or adventurous about war.

After you have hidden in a mass grave to avoid detection by some crazed bubblegum in Bosnia, I can assure you that there is no romance involved. You just have to swallow your ego and let the maggots and flies go all over you or try to take on a tank brigade. Taking another's life, especially just to benefit the coffers of a few companies is what war is all about.

I don't know why Americans seem to believe war is a good thing. It is always started on false pretenses and to benefit the elite only. The boob tube and all the propaganda, who knows. War has always been a vehicle to benefit the 1%. Americans are living in delusion and can't see that. So bent on supporting the status quo that they don't know they are digging their own graves.

If you want to preach against war, you can be the next John Lennon or Martin Luther King. Don't screw with the profits and social control of people far, far above you.

Personally, when I want to think "hero" and "war" in the same sentence I can only think USS Liberty. Perhaps if that fraud would have been exposed, 9/11 wouldn't have been such an easy sale.
