On one hand, 1/3 of them get it.

On the other hand, this could all have been manipulated to pass by one vote and keep the right-left red-blue polarization going.

Tom Ridge admitted that he was coerced to raising the "terror alert" level at politically expedient times. I wonder what were the effects of Big Sis Napolitano's media scare tactics (the few days before the vote)

You know what is funny about that? Why people in the senate and house have a average net worth of over 10 million keep wanting to get paid about $120,000? There a lot of people worth more I don't think it is so much about power but money. Swing votes to their advantage and keep the money rolling in.

obama renewed it not long ago iirc, AFTER campaigning against it (not to mention all the patriot act bashing that his millions of democrat supporters did all during Bush's years).I believe he may have even added to it..... but either way, the democrats are at least as responsible for it as the rebublicans- and when considering the amount of squawking the dems have done about it, and as frequently as they've used it to demonize the republicans, I'd have to say the democrats have shown far less integrity where this issue is concerned

Wasn't mentioned in the thread so far: Rules were suspended so they could do a voice vote with almost no debate. 2/3 "yea" required to pass, and they they failed to get the super-majority. This bill also extended those provisions to September (or so) of this year.

Once they arrive in Washington D(istrict) (of) C(riminals), members of both parties find their heads swelling with the knowledge that they are now the "Elite" of America. Once they become ensconsed in America's version of the Supreme Soviet, legislooters no longer are interested in what their constituants want. In D. C. I consider the difference between DemoRats and Repugnicans the same as the difference between a violin and a fiddle. Therefore I registered as "Unaffiliated."

Trlsmn had it right the first time: It's the R's that don't get it. This was passed by the House on a largely party-line vote, with R's overwhelmingly voting in favor of a larger, more intrusive federal government, and the D's overwhelmingly voting against.

So much for the party of smaller government....

Really? You think the D's 'get it'? Please explain health care, gun control, our current tax system, Fannie or Freddie mae to name a few.

And if you think R's 'get it' please explain the wall street bailouts, Iraq, Afghanistan, the war on drugs, gay marriage to name a few.

DC is a cesspool of selfish, immoral, scheming, money grubbers that are looking out for themselves.

Want to know why? Because we let them. We ask them to keep doing what they are doing because we keep sending them back.

Exactly, just because the I posted the Republicans don't get it doesn't mean the Democrats get it either.

Traitors, traitors everywhere

What's a patriot to do?

What did the Founders do?

Just remember Jefferson and his Tree of Liberty comment

I suppose Jefferson would have been renditioned to Egypt these days

I'm just surprised I haven't heard the phrase bipartisan collaboration used to refer to passing this. All the pols who voted for this regardless of political affiliation are wrong. It has me agreeing with some pols who I don't often agree with as well.

It's not "we", the US is a tyranny of the majority and all the government has to do is bribe just enough people with our own tax money to retain power. The bribed sheeple will vote for anyone who promises entitlements and/or taking care of the bogeyman, whichever one is in season (muslims, gays, mexicans, drug users, bankers, etc).
