I keep meaning to post the link but I can't find the time. Precision Rifle Blog did an excellent write up on precision high end scopes and which preform the best through a battery of tests. It's very enlightening and can make the decision to go with X brand over Y brand a little less easier with less guess work.
 
Someone mentioned it before, "buy once, cry once." Also don't skimp on the mounts or rings. Again, buy once, cry once.

I was in the same boat as you, for the exact same reason. I went with the Viper Vortex. I opted for the 6-24x50 for my old eye's too. ;)

Burris, US Optics, Night Force (to name a few) were out of my budget and I thought too much for the 7mm.....
