3 more years and the brat will graduate high school. Coeur D' Alene here we come.
Currently live in Spokane. It use to be a red city, but rapidly shifting for left. The city council here is socialist. Only a manner of time before its little Seattle.
Coeur D' Alene is also shifting left of recent. Plus it's a tourist trap. Sand Point is better.

I grew up in southern Oregon at a time when I was able to buy my first rifle at age 12 (I told this story in another thread some time ago), and most people I knew kept loaded rifles in racks in their pickups. These days I'm almost embarrassed to tell anyone who cares about 2A that I came from Oregon. Truth be told, I carried concealed for years in Washington before I learned I needed a CPL and got one. All legal now in Washington—but for how long? My wife and I are looking to move to a friendlier state but also want to stay close to our kids and grandkids. Idaho looks like "it." Which doesn't help the fellow who started this thread. I harbor faint hope that the great State of Jefferson will come to pass and we will only have to move to the eastern part of Washington.

At the end of the day, I believe no one will be immune. Suggesting fighting in any way possible. Never thought about it. Another member pointed out the Federal law being ignored when each State passed the marijuana legalization for their states. So would it be if state and local law if the rights of bearing arms infringed. Any firearm law would would be unlawful.

As others have said above, it's in flux with new laws pending in both states. Compare these two wiki pages for a rough version of what is currently legal. Some of the stuff I care about, like binary triggers, aren't legal in WA and are legal in OR. My guess is that before too long the laws will be pretty much the same in both states but just a guess as OR has bills that do the same things WA has done (storage laws, for example).

There are better locations for shooting, in my opinion on the Washington side as compared to the Metro area of Portland. I live in Gresham (Oregon) and a lot of the places within an hour of me have been closed down because people trash them it seems. You also have some good ranges over by Camas which I like to go to occasionally.

As far as laws go....like people have said, they will both be about the same in the end. Oregon has some pretty rabid anti-gun groups that will point to any laws Washington has passed and push them on our Democratic supermajority to pass here as well. As long as Kate Brown is in office here, it's hard to sleep at night.

GUN LAWS SUCK PERIOD!!! Both states are going down hill. If you have to move then move where you can afford to be out of town and away from the suck!!! Sit back strap in and get ready for the ride!!

We got out of OryGun in 2010 and relocated to the very red state of Colorado, only to have it flip to purple and finally blue within 3 years! If it can happen there, it will happen any where! Colorado used to be ultra hard core pro 2nd, but the combined californication, and ultra left leaning liberal, socialest democrats have turned it upside down!
Funny though, out side the three big cities, its still hard core pro 2nd, much like Orygun!

Yeah we've spent way too much time running from the problem and finally everyone is realizing we need to face it HEAD ON. Too may gun owners thought that if they just hid in the shadows and kept hush about their gun ownership, the left would see that WE weren't the problem. That would require them to be sensible though. This will happen everywhere in the country if we don't fight it.

It isn't about gun control any longer. It broadly sweeps, and and encompasses other related and non related laws with a bit of freedom lost with each. Soon it's a matter of being unrelated to firearms control, and everything to do with people control. Lost given rights are no rights, and a ancient system of long ago were force will be used instead of the people's wishes. Moving isn't going to solve the erosion that has embedded itself into every Blue state, that are doomed to failure. Those states that have been taken over must be taken back before they are depleted of anything worth fighting for. This senseless passing, and dreaming up laws to cripple basic common law, and the Constitution has to be stopped, or public unrest will follow is almost a given. At least half the population are firearms owners, and I think between fear, and anger...everyone has had enough. There are over 230,000 firearms laws that haven't prevented a single crime or a death. Time to consider placing the blame where it belongs, on the criminal, not the firearms owner!

"Off topic my job will bring me to Hillsboro, OR"

Then buy a home in Hillsboro, unless you like spending a significant amount of your life in a car. The traffic is pretty ugly in the PDX region due to the car-hostile policies of the local governments.

As to gun laws, get used to being noncompliant. Especially with what is now being cooked up in the Oregon legislature. Don't worry, you won't be alone.

Have to agree with the majority here. If I'm spending the energy/money/time to move, make it 500 miles east to a free state. Absent SCOTUS or federal intervention in gun laws, both Oregon and Washington are lost causes. Within probably 5 years they will be competing for the worst in the nation.

They are both on the verge of banning mags, "assault weapons," restrictions on ownership, registration, mandatory safe storage, red flag laws, and all the other wet dream leftist agendas. Following that will be denial of concealed carry. Bank on it.

I'm out of here as soon as I can manage it.

Lots of luck, you are going to need it! If you don't think this isn't going to follow you no matter where you go...I have a bridge to sell you. This situation is going to be National so there isn't anywhere that you will hide for long. Biggest concern is going to be how long it will take the Supreme Court to agree to hear it. Hearing from Constitutional lawyers, most of these recent laws do not fit or supersede the 2nd Amendment and thus are unlawful. Nothing can be changed unless a Constitutional Congress meets, it isn't likely. A shame because of the time delay, but most of the bills will not be valid. None of the mandated bills are funded or provision for manpower for enforcement. More than one problem here.

I think it is fair to say that the only effective push-back in either state is going to be primarily from the 2nd Amendment Foundation and NRA in the courts. I believe that anything that the only freedoms to be preserved, will be the ones that the Supreme Court decides are worth saving. The reality is that Democrats own both states and are going to do whatever they want.

I'm relocating to the Portland area later this year. I'm trying to decide to live on Washington side or Oregon side of river. Heard about Washington limited 30 round to 10 round Mags. Also heard Washington is trying to after all semi auto rifles/handguns. Haven't heard much of any changes in Oregon. I conceal carry and like to keep my AR15s. So which State is more gun friendly.

Off topic my job will bring me to Hillsboro, OR, but like Camas, WA as it's a nice family community with great schools for my kids. But that's one helluva commute.

Oregon used to be great. They were a little strict on CHL they required classes on conceled carry safety and the laws .which is a good and had no reciprocity agreements with other states..The last 5 years have been been a run away train
Of senseless rights infringing insanity.

Well, that's ONE way of looking at it. And a possible outcome.

But let us not forget, "running away" isn't really the correct analysis. Our forefathers left tyranny for better opportunity and that worked out pretty well for them for centuries.

The more realistic view is moving to an area that I want to be in so I can get on with my life without incessant attacks on my rights and oppression. In the next 10 years here the things you like to do that are legal might become felonies. Many are willing to break the laws and commit felonies. If tomorrow they rescind concealed carry and ban all your guns, will you not leave?

I'd say it's far easier and cheaper to move to a RED state. Add my vote to those populations to keep them RED and FREE. And moving gets harder every year I get older. Bit the bullet now ...

If the SCOTUS rules on this stuff, it's likely not going to be for what, 5, 10, 15 years. If it never does, well, it'll take decades for some states to "fall" if ever. I'll pick one that I think is the least likely, like Utah, Oklahoma, etc.

Also, it's not just guns. It's attitudes. If you were in a self defense shooting, who would you prefer is on your jury of peers? Pro-gunners or Anti-gun mouth breathing leftists? Stated otherwise, would you rather have a jury pool picked today from Sacramento, or any city in Oklahoma?

How about sanctuary cities which are plaguing these leftist states?

I think there's going to be some sides picked and heels digging in, red vs. blue states, in the near term. I'd rather be in a red state if/when that occurs. If there is a oft-discussed "civil war" I'd rather be in a RED pro-gun pro-freedom state than behind enemy lines, as well.

I understand, and perhaps it is an option, but not one I am going to entertain. I live in a low density area, and most everything is paid for except future property taxes. Primary it is a Red county with an older population. In fact it was where Jefferson State idea was formed. Strange you should mention Sacramento, as that was my base of of operation when I bought my property here. At that time, I could purchase, and did, many of those firearms that are now banned there. Also lived in Nevada where mostly most anything was legal except for two Counties that are Blue now. All this follows a population concentration, but states that were pretty much liberal and live and let live, the disease of Blue has spread without a cure yet. Until the myths end with the Blue, and they start draining of the swamp, with long sentences, we may have to still tolerate the BS. There are large numbers of proven wrong doings that need correction to start fresh again. There are no secret hide holes until that happens, and everyone has their own idea what their security needs to be. There used to be a man, Mel Tappan (I think it's how his name is spelled) Wrote a couple books and a monthly for Guns and Ammo a monthly column. All most excellent and had a go to retreat, and go bag where all he had to do is get his wife and himself to his home somewhere outside of Ashland, Oregon. Sad, because he was point on with all he passed on through sustaining on his own if need be. It hasn't happened yet, but this man who really had it together died. His widow had to move back to the valley, as there wasn't any way to sustain life on her own. He passed on to many thousands, if you want to, here's what you would have to do! However, I still believe that no man is an island. If you are prepared to make a move, wish you luck, as you are facing the unknown. Hopeful everyone that doesn't agree with Socialist Democrats will stand fast, sooner or later they will be standing in their own Poop!
