My advice, get on a local repeater that sees regular use and start meeting fellow hams.
I've had a Technician license for almost a year but I rarely get on the air and talk. Listen lots to CCSO and OSP. Have lots of repeaters loaded but as you've mentioned there's not a lot of talking that holds my interest. Lets talk Guns, Ammo, Reloading, Hiking, Climbing, Preps, etc.... Not sure how expensive it is to put up and manage a repeater though.. There are some repeaters that have some down time where there's not much action. Maybe setup a couple of times a day for like minded to meet on a less than traveled repeater?I'm in Oregon City. I've had my Tech for about 3 years now but haven't used it much. The repeaters are full of conversations that don't hold my interest very well; although, I do like to listen to the nets on occasion.
'Would like to set up a repeater in this area for local conversations among like minds.
Pittsmaster, thanks for your service.

First time I've heard someone use the word Raspi. Could you give me a link to more info? I'm just starting to learn some digital info.
Raspberry Pi Raspberry Pi - Teach, Learn, and Make with Raspberry Pi
Like a arduino but faster and runs a linux os
OK. Thanks for the info on Raspi. I'll look it up. I've done some research into Arduino. Nothing has grabbed my attention there, yet. A hundred bucks to make a couple of lights blink. More bucks to do something useful.
If you know of a Raspi project for digital comm on 2m, please point me there. I'd like to try some digital with the Pierce Co ARES folks. I don't have a regular computer to use. Maybe a Raspi could do the job?
