PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The state Board of Higher Education is expected to approve a new policy Friday that would ban guns on Oregon's seven university campuses.

A court decision in September upheld the right of students and faculty with concealed weapons permits to bear arms. But it also said the board has authority to control its property.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/swXAbp ) the new policy would require people to agree not to carry guns if they wanted to do any business on university property -- as a student, professor, employee, contractor, sports fan or visitor to any event on campus. There would be exceptions for police and military programs.

The Oregon Firearms Education Foundation says it's watching to see how the policy plays out before deciding whether to sue.

Sue their intestines out. Also...concealed means concealed.

Not surprised. It doesn't sound like they're planning on preventing people from carrying on campus grounds who are just wondering around and not going to a class or event.

Wonder what recourse they'll have with visitors. Tell them to leave? That threat sure works with alcohol at football games.:laugh:

That's exactly what I said last night when I saw this on the news. How big of a problem are they having with CHL permit holders causing problems on campus that they need to regulate this.

It has nothing to do with CHL holders causing problems, because they aren't. What this is about is they were breaking the law by denying law abiding citizens and CHL holders their legal right to carry on campus. Someone called them on it, and the courts slapped their peepees.

This is about them trying to find a way around the court's decision. Same thing DC and Chicago did after they got their peepees slapped.

12 Minutes to respond at Virginia Tech, just long enough for him to kill 32 people and himself...Good thing he wasn't allowed to have a gun on campus!

This is no longer only a potential OUS policy change but an active bill to change the ORS.

So the schools wont do business unless you agree to their policy......How about everybody don't do business with the school until the board changes their mind....boycott the schools.....boycott the schools....boycott the schools. It would take a massive state wide movement, not just a half-a$$ effort.

Just stop them from using funds from state tax payers since they dont want to abide our rights as citizens. If it is private property then they should not get tax money.
