Received latest issue of NRA's American Rifleman. It is changing from 12 issues/yr to 4 print issues plus (how exciting) digital content for all those people constantly staring at their cell phones. Odd, I subscribed to 12 issues/yr for 5 years. Guess I'll be dumping the NRA and demanding refund of remaining unused portion

It's not just them, American Handgunner and Guns also went digital, no more print copies. I'm sure Guns & Ammo will follow soon.

Don't like it.
But, I can understand.
That being said......

Being a Life Member and getting all of those FREE magazines throughout the years.........I can truly say that I got more than my money's worth.

Aloha, Mark

I get the American Hunter magazine from the NRA. No mention of anything like that in the last issue. I suppose it could be coming in the next issue. Bummer. I've tried reading magazines online. Didn't care for it. Ended up not renewing a couple of magazines due to digital content only. I'm a Life Member of the NRA, so I guess I'll just be reading the quarterly version if it comes to that.

Fortunately my 5yr renewal is up in 2029. I feel bad for life members since one of their expectations was for a monthly print magazine.

Oh, I suppose if a person needs a reason to bash the NRA and they need a reason to no longer support them, they'll find it. Don't let the door hit you........

I also don't like the discontinuation of a printed magazine, but it's the wave of the future for many if not most, periodical publications.

And agree or not, I will not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

And I just received the January 2026 American Hunter today. They have the same announcement. On the cover it says; "You'll receive12 premium enhanced digital issues annually. You can choose to receive quarterly issues in print at no extra charge." Then, the entire inside cover page explains what/why they are doing. I wonder whether the four print issues will contain all of the information in the digital issues and how to make that choice.

It is good to know they are "...knocking down the current vertical silos and creating cross-functional teams..." and other changes designed to "increase efficiency and remove redundancies" which "will streamline operations and enable the NRA to implement new, data-driven techniques to increase income." This involves "flattening the organizational structure, redeploying staff, and exploiting technology to better manage the day-to-day activities of the Association." Sometimes I don't think they really know their target audience.

Oh no! The monthly advertisement catalog is disappearing? How will I ever know about Montana rock jewelry and janky one in a lifetime knives?

Not a fan of digital magazines , e-books and the like.
Yeah I know the days of print magazines are dwindling down ....I will miss 'em.

Give me print , pages....and real books and magazines.
Says the guy posting on the internet.... :D

No comment on the NRA, I was considering uplgrading to a life membership back in 2014, thought about all the junk mail and emails I received, and let it lapse instead. I was saddened by the self destructive path they were on.
Print advertisement used to pay handsomely, but it has dried up over the years.
I have been at printing plants to work on their equipment. The new photo printers are extremely expensive, and very expensive to maintain. The full bleed offset ones are also super expensive to maintain.
Printed material will continue to disappear, as there are far fewer now than even a decade ago.

Indeed, not just manly things like Hot Hods, Guns & Ammo, American Rifleman, Outdoors, Popular Mechanics/Science, or National Geographic... But also the porn, pinups, the women's lifestyle rags, and hopefully also the tabloids

I'm Good with it. Life Member for a good long while now.

Many Print magazines have gone that route in recent years.

If it saves money that can go to better purposes I am all for it.

Joined in 1994. We now have a Pro-Gun President, Congress and Supreme Court.

Everything we could ask of a National Organization.

Well, first of all, for print journalism to succeed, you must have people who know how to read. Not just look at pictures, videos and electronic games. Reading print is rapidly becoming a lost art. Plus, people who do know how to read, mostly don't. The watch or listen instead. The population of readers is dwindling.

I'm doing my part to keep literacy up with my children, they like to read, and they read captions pretty good for their ages, 3 and 5.

Meh. It's an old organization for old people with old ideas. I won't miss the beggar mail, that's for sure.

Hmmm.....
While I understand the comment about "beggar mail"....
I am a life member...and do not , at age 56 , consider myself "old people"...or having "old ideas".

That said...
I am no fan of Wayne La Pierre ...or the way the NRA has conducted itself for a long while now.
It is not the same organization that my Grandfather and Father belonged to...nor is it the same from when I first joined.

However...
Blanket statements such as "its an old organization for old people with old ideas"....
Seldom cover as much , as one might think.

According to a report:

The NRA earned $51.7 million in membership dues last year, which is down from $61.8 million in 2023, according to the outlet's review of the audit.

The organization's work has been impacted too, with the audit revealing that spending is down on publications, "legislative programs," and public affairs in 2024.

So, what IS the future of the NRA? A slow death? Does it stand a chance of any recovery?

Is the CURRENT interest in gun ownership, actual SHOOTING SPORTS, hunting etc. enough to maintain the NRA or is it a 'vestige' of the past and does not 'resonate' today?

I am looking at it from a 'historical perspective' - and the history does not look good....

Even if it's your LAST CHANCE? I mean it this time - LAST CHANCE. LAST CHANCE ENDS TONIGHT. Okay, so we're extending your LAST CHANCE. This is the last time your LAST CHANCE will be offered (today).
Give us $20 right now or the whole second amendment gets repealed at midnight and it'll be YOUR FAULT.

Ok, how about... By TOMORROW AT MIDNIGHT, then?

Ok, maybe it'll only take $15 but we're SUPER DUPER SERIOUS this time
