This is going to take some work...
If you have friends or family who don't regularly vote, or are somewhat disengaged from the politics of the day, it's time for a conversation. It's going to take more than just WA's "super-owners" to beat this down in Nov... gonna need the fence-sitters and gun agnostics (aGUNostics?) to play along too.
My job has me in WA every week... I can't do any hard core politicking w my customers, but I can put a subtle bug in their ears. It won't turn any antis into pros, but it might persuade some of the previously ill-informed or disinterested to break our way.

Indeed. A handful of 'workers' in the Legislative threads aren't going to get this done...not even close. To sit on the fence is a form of support through apathy, meaning those that won't get off their a$$ to proactively work to get it voted down, is effectively helping (handing?) the opposition to a victory. The anti's are counting on this. The 'after fact' outrage is childish wastage of breath...my broken record 'keeping it off the books is far superior than trying to get it off the books.' If it gets voted in, it'll be the ends justifying the means and open the door for court(s) to ignore all the other non-compliant/unlawful issues...the 'will of the people will have spoken!!' It is absolutely ridiculous that it has to be voted on before courts can rule it illegal on blatant procedural errors (flawed petition signature gathering). Talk about abuse of the system.

Thinking you can 'mind your own business/silent and out of this mess' is the pathway to failure.

Also important to remember, if the opposition wins, but by a slimmer margin, that greatly helps arguments down the road. If it wins by a landslide, well...that certainly doesn't help.

And then look at King Co's action plan, particularly Step 3, (my other post), they'll be looking to overturn state pre-emption and then ban the possession (and sale) of 'high velocity, semi-auto weapons.' I note no grandfathering mentioned. So all y'all in King Co. better start getting it in ULTRA-HIGH gear unless you want to loose your 'semi-auto high, velocity weapons' or be forced to move. Sound practical? Other counties will no doubt follow suit.

Let's be honest, this is all stemming primarily from a single incident in Mukilteo last year.

And remember, there's no guarantee the SCOTUS would hear a case on this...if they do, it might be years down the road...what will you do in the mean time?

EVERY 2A & gun owner had better start writing their legislators demanding answers of this illegal action by the state supreme court and writing letters to every news agency outlining the faults of this illegal BS decision. I just sent a letter to MY elected officials and every news agency in my area demanding IF they're going to let us bleed or whatever. I'm so po'd right now I can't stand it.

^^^And not just once. Keep it professional/respectful/fact based.

The glee and zeal with which some sheeple appear to take in stripping away rights law abiding citizens who've never done any thing wrong...1984 can't get here fast enough for them.:(

I probably won't be spending as much time posting on here 'preaching to the choir.' I'll be spending more time/effort reaching outside of this forum. I'd recommend you consider doing the same.

Hopefully the powers that be full-utilize the power of this forum to reach as wide and audience as possible (*cough* post in the semi-auto rifle and pistol sections (among other) *cough, cough*).o_Oo_O

So I will chime in here one last time for those who haven't put me on their ignore list.
- For those saying this (the initiative format) needs to go to SCOTUS, this isn't something they can, or would, touch. This and the violation of the "single issue" for initiatives violation are purely state issues and are not defined in the US constitution.
- If you think our state supreme court is going to recognize the "single issue" violation here or the outright violation of Article 24 of our State Constitution, you are delusional and I would like to sell you my Unicorn poop for garden fertilizer. These people are bought and paid for by the unions and the progressive left. They will find any Orwellian language to push it through.
-This might be challenged to SCOTUS on 2A grounds but I am worried about recent declines under similar circumstances. It may be better to challenge under 4A as it forces disclosure of private information and the surrender of one right to keep another. There may be other constitutional grounds to challenge on as well since it adds fees and taxes that create an undue burden. It also prevents you from recourse if you are falsely denied your rights, which is a due process violation (like if a doctor makes a false or negligent claim that blocks your 2A right.)
-For those crying about the timing of the NRA joining this fight, remember, they can represent an individual or group of individuals who are residents of this state and are impacted by the initiative. The courts will tell them to butt out otherwise. So the best thing to do is find a couple of people this impacts, do a crowd funding for them and file a challenge to it. Then the NRA and other organizations can file suit on their behalf.
-There are people out there you have already alienated. People who are conservative but don't see this issue as their fight. With this incessant whining about RINOs and recalls when some office holder doesn't do something EXACTLY to your viewpoint pushes them to focus on their own issues and not join with you. My own example is this; I have some funds to donate to a political cause. My congressional district has a bed-wetting Dem running against a devout Socialist so it ain't going to either of them. Money I would have donated to SAF now will be split between candidates running in the 8th and 5th congressional districts in hopes of protecting my bigger interests. What some here promote is what gave us Roy Moore in Bama, and I will not participate in any cause that supports that type of farce.

I'm just going to drop some thoughts about our spineless "fellate-the-enemy-not-fight-them" Kapo Konservatives... We tried it the Fredocons' way for fifty years and what have we gotten? Nothing but steadily losing ground... there is a word for doing the same thing for five decades and expecting the results to change: INSANE.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."
--Sir Winston Churchill

We are where we are because for too many decades the GOP greeted Democrat Visigothery with endless tut-tutting and clicking of tongues when it would have been easy to slap them down, and now that they've escalated to firebuggery we have to put them down before they burn the whole house down around us. Yes, we will have rebuilding to do afterward, but if we don't stop the Blue Team arsonists from burning the house with our family IN IT we're not gonna have anything left TO rebuild!

The old rules, which we all naturally WANT to play by, are DEAD--the Left murdered them just as surely as they did the victims of the Ukrainian Holodomor, the Cultural Revolution and the Killing Fields. We won't stop the bombing of London by just putting up Spitfires and swatting attacks aside, we gotta torch Dresden, as detestable as it is. If we are to ever bring the Old Ways back, the first thing that needs to happen is leveling the playing field--which means first crushing the Cultural Marxists and if need be their limp-wristed, fainting-couch-dwelling, "OH-WELL-I-NEVER!*huff*"-at-anything-other-than-bend-over-and-grab-ankles NeverSane enablers with them. Debates about principles are a luxury for WINNERS, after all.

Anyway, the Kocktail-Party Kapo Klub has been singing the same tired old Failure Theater siren-song for five decades, but us Normals are getting Woke to the "you scratch our back we stab yours" racket and tuning in a new playlist. One with gems like:

Lead, Follow, or GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR WAY!

Not to piss people off as its not my intent. And sometimes people need to vent for 13 pages of posts rehearsing the same show, but never actually going on stage. This fan fair, has done nothing, no sure why we keep repeating the same ole same ole, we won't comply? Yet laws upon laws around us are passed. I guess people just have a whole different view then I about " wont comply ".

Buried in the I1639 is a interesting tidbit...

Residents of a state other than Washington may purchase rifles
and shotguns, except those firearms defined as semiautomatic assault
rifles, in Washington: PROVIDED, That such residents conform to the
applicable provisions of the federal Gun Control Act of 1968....

Maybe someone with more legal experience can chime in, but isn't this effectively a violation of prohibition against creation of interstate trade barriers and a cut and dry violation of the commerce clause? Something any Federal Court regardless of political leaning would throw out...

Partially correct... but this thread hasn't been worthless...there have been off-line communications, and it is a good place to share info, exchange ideas, and support.

However, you're correct in that discussing amongst ourselves, the 100 or so people here in our 'echo chamber' has only a fraction of the desired effect...we're preaching to our own choir, so it is essential we reach beyond the Firearms and Legislative Action sub-forum off into other areas. There are WA. residents on this very forum that are completely unaware/clueless on I-1639:eek::(o_O...because they don't wander over into this area...and must be living under a rock or something???THAT HAS GOT TO CHANGE.

However, some folks are taking out news paper ads, some are compiling email distribution lists, some are donating $$, some are cross posting on other forums (there is another WA. specific forum that has chatter on this very topic, so we're not the only dog in the fight)...

We really, REALLY could use people plugged into Social Media (where are you guys??) and the gun shops to get involved...as said before, they get more face time with 2A folks all day, every day.

Not trying to be a downer, but the last 20 years there has been little to no changes, Rallys, meetings and forums didn't even slow it down. In 2019 it will be the first time I am stepping back and looking at other options, this same ole same ole works maybe to get people to talk but talking to the same people over and over has no effect on the fight at all. The legislative aggressive stance shows they have zero concerns over any group, there are so many that stepped up claiming to do something, they sold shirts had rallys and nothing happened. SOPH, OFF and a host of groups have collected allot of cash for the fights and have done nothing to change anything. I have just heard this same old song an dance so long I can write the whole story right to the ending. I don't even have to say what state, as they all have the exact same results, nothing changes.

Precisely--the definition of insanity is taking the same action and expecting a different result. So what new tactics are available for us to try other than the obvious of Alinsky the living sh*t out of these people until they fit in a matchbox?

We have got to get more gun owners to be become registered voters. At present, outside of legal action by SAF, NRA, etc, that is goal #1.

So how do you do that?
Communicate, communicate, communicate...Spread.The.Word. OUTSIDE of this forum. Email, print out flyers and mail to ranges and gunshops. Take out an ad in the paper. Email your legislators. Reach out on social media. Any lawful means you can think of.

Pick an actual task and go with it, make it happen. Action, not rhetoric. Less discussing, more doing.

I have a nationwide column I'm going to try to call down Fire Missions from, asking my readers to contact any family/friends they have here and have them read upmore on the gory details of 1639 and vote No.
