Oregon sleeping voters have elected a Democrat supermajority. They think they are justified in anything they do because of all the emotions from Parkland, and Dems vs Trump politics. The ONLY thing they care about is re-election. They must believe that you will donate to their competition and ruin their ambitions if they blame your hobby for the crimes of a handful of criminals. They must hear via email, phone calls and letters every day from more and more people.

I fought city hall once many years back. These are things I learned:

1: Most politicians care most about their re-election. Therefore, the most voices will sway them. I watched them go from a majority one way to a majority the other way because the people of the county flooded them with calls and letters.
2: They need a good excuse to justify changing an already-stated opinion. You have to give them one. When you email or write or call, you should give good reasons that are easy to understand and repeat to others.
3: Your good reason(s) should be correct. Use solid logic that can't be shot down by a slogan.
4: Never embarrass your team. Never threaten violence. Never be one of "those" people they use as justfication for confiscating your means of defense.
5: You and everyone you know should flood their phones, emails and snail-mail with communications. Every day.
6: When they see which way the crowd is going, they will use some of those "good reasons" to justify voting with the crowd.
7: Flood the newspapers with letters to the editor and posts on their websites. Pols read those too. Again, which way is the crowd going?
8: MAKE A CROWD. Flood the pols and papers with emails, phone calls and letters. It seems like a lot of work, but it is less work than all of the alternatives.

Get everyone you know to participate. Help your 90-year old grandmother.

Copy this and post it other places. Print copies and drop off at the gun stores and ranges near you. Get others involved. I am going to post a few arguments below you and your friends can use to justify your position. YOU ARE RIGHT. But you need to make them accept it, or at least be able to justify supporting you.

Here is an argument that can't be refuted. Use it often, especially in letters to the editor and to the legislators.

MYTH: Police want stricter gun laws
TRUTH: Police on the street overwhelmingly support gun rights for citizens without police records. A handful of chiefs may echo mayors that appoint them, but the cops who work the streets support your rights. These are just three of many links:

Well said and excellent guidance. Especially the part about being respectful in the communications. While it's often expected and tolerated by the left, of the left, they always hold our side to higher standards. Let's not disappoint.

MYTH: "A handgun in a home is 43 times more likely to kill one of the residents than a criminal."
This is a bogus statistic from an MD named Arthur Kellerman. If you remove the suicides from his sampling, his statistic is now "6 times more likely". Most of his remaining "victims" were multiple criminals living together, where one shot the other in a fight. He lets you assume they were families just like yours, by counting gun-death statistics for criminal households together with those of traditional families. (Polsby and Brennen, "Taking Aim At Gun Control" 1995). He has repeatedly refused the opportunity to debate speakers on the other side of the issue.

There are other similar arguments that gun owners are more likely to get shot, but they hinge on statistics that include criminal households lumped in with families.

MYTH: "Incidents like the Parkland shooting demand gun control"

TRUTH: Deaths from mass shootings get all the headlines, but they are extremely rare compared to other violent crime, even now. There have been 1135 mass shooting deaths since 1966 (Washington Post). That represents less than 2 years in Chicago. Same for many other big cities where guns are almost banned. That doesn't support the gun control narrative, so it is ignored.

The Parkland shooting was a textbook case of failure of "the authorities" we are supposed to depend on for protection. The authorities tell us: "See Something, Say Something". Local residents called the Broward Sheriffs to the shooter's home 45 times. No arrests, because the Broward County Sheriff chose to take money from the PROMISE program to divert teen offenders to counseling instead of arrests. Residents called the FBI twice. No arrest, even after shooter Niklaus Cruz posted a video saying he wants to be a school shooter. With no arrests, Cruz passed the background check to buy the murder weapon.

The authorities say the police will protect us. Yet the four Broward County deputies who were on the scene when Cruz started shooting kids stayed outside. The Sheriff ran to a CNN "Town Hall" event to blame the NRA for the murders his deputies let happen. This sequence of real events would fail the smell test for a TV drama.

MYTH: Gun laws reduce gun murders
REPLY: People who ignore murder laws aren't going to be stopped by gun laws.

You say a gun ban? How is that drug ban working out? No drugs on the streets any more? Or are they still around? And with guns, otherwise honest people also feel it is a bad law, not just addicts.

Britain banned guns 22 years ago. Now they are banning knives.

This chart shows the homicides before and after the British gun ban. Hint: Homicides skyrocketed in the years after the ban and took years to pull down, but they are still higher than when guns were banned.

Many other sites publish stats starting a few years after the ban, so they can claim homicides are down. This shows before and after.

Democrats claim to be for protecting minorities. Show them how gun control hurts minorities in every era. Are you Jewish? "I am afraid for my children" African American? Same. LGBT? Same. Any member of any group has at one time or another in the last century been persecuted. Tell them how guns even the odds between bigots and their intended victims. There are plenty of stories. Oppressors have been around in every generation.

This problem has been around for a long time. The USA is the first modern-era civilization whose fundamental laws protect your rights. Don't lose that.

MYTH: "You can't defend against a modern army, so the Second Amendment is not relevant to today's conversation"

TRUTH: An armed citizenry makes the cost of an invasion unacceptable. Remember the 2003 Iraq war? Saddam's military fell in 41 days. But the fighting lasted until President Obama withdrew the troops in 2011.
