I value the firearm-related discussions here.

I am not interested in "Off Topic" discussions.

Technical question: I usually check "New Posts". Is there a way to categorically block the "Off Topic" threads from showing up in the New Posts?

Thanks

Didn't used to be. But I have put both threads and entire forum rooms on Ignore in this new version of NWFA, and don't recall seeing them.

"Ignore thread" is at the top of the thread.

For "Ignore forum", go to the Forum list, click on the forum name at the left, when the list of threads appears, click on "Ignore forum" at the top of the page.

I hope this helps.

Not directed at you Andy, but generally:

I thought about the amount of non-firearms discussion after a member recently posted that in 4 months there was more non-gun activity than there was gun related discussion.

What I think is that it is the times. Most of us have been locked out of shooting ranges for awhile now, and with Spring hunting over, there is really not much to talk about.

I'm one of those that gets weary of reading about the latest widget or replacement part, etc, for a firearm. Current events do interest me, but sometimes it gets too heated, goes on for too long, gets repetitive, etc. And I have a low tolerance for frustration, so I use the Ignore, Ignore thread, Ignore forum feature. A lot.

There is nothing else about Covid19 that I need to discuss... GONE! :s0037:

If these riots don't calm down.. what will there be left to say?

Now,

What is the overall best cartridge to use for deer, elk, antelope, jackrabbits, grouse, sage rats, rioters (ooops!)?

What is the best rifle for hunting?

What shotgun is best for home defense?

Where can I go that will ensure that I get my deer, elk, antelope, jackrabbit, grouse, sage rat, rioter (ooops!)?

:D:D:D

This would probably be way too much work but is there a way to utilize tags more effectively?

If every thread on Covid-19 was tagged as such, or riots, etc., and there was an easy way to filter threads by tag or exclude by tags...that'd solve the issue, right? I know that you can use tag searches but it is relegated to the advanced search tab. If I'm going to go through all that trouble, then I'd like to be able to save searches and have a quick access bar to them because I'll end up building my own groupings that interest me.

That is a good question and one that needs to get answered by someone more computer savvy than me.
Now if you had any questions regarding a flintlock or percussion gun.....

It was not my intention to consider closing the Off Topic Section....
I hope that I did not give that impression.

Off Topic is needed ....and can be a fun read.
I saw needed , because Off Topic subjects can provide much in the way of information , entertainment and provide yet another connection with other forum members.
Again it one can chose to read or engage in a thread....or not if it ain't down you alley , so to speak.

My main points were :
Consider if your new thread can fit into a existing thread , before posting...
Make sure your posts and threads follow the forum rules...
Have you post be clear on its meaning...
And that we have a reporting system as well as the ignore feature.
Andy
Without the off topic section @Stomper would have like 4 posts total! ;)

Best way to filter is to not even have them here, simple fix. There are a whole lot of sites to go to if people want to discuss those topics. :s0159:

You mean "tags" (categories) like at those porno sights?

BTW....I'm not admitting that I watch that stuff.

Hmm, I appear to have a special power. I never thought I did? But it seems I do. I'll tell y'all what it is. I have the amazing ability to look at the "Recent Threads", on the right up there, and decide for myself whether or not they interest me.
I have the amazing ability to read posts in a thread that gets going strong, and long, and when/if I tire of reading that thread I hit the "Forums" or "Back" button to find something I would like to read.
When I've read everything I care to read, and participate in, I click the "X" up in the top right of the screen and get to doing something else. I use this same technique on any of the forums I read and/or participate in. And in all the time I've spent here I don't think I have ever complained about too many this or that threads on the board. (No doubt due to my special powers). I have, on very few occasions, flagged threads/posts that obviously do not belong on the forum.

I can, and DO, use both of those abilities on a daily basis! I could be wrong though? Maybe those aren't amazing abilities at all? I might just be one of the lucky ones the isn't being magically forced, somehow, to read things I don't want to?

There are some easy ways we could merge a bunch of threads by keywords.

I'd like to go through a bunch soon as start merging even closely related topics to clean a bunch of the duplicates and similar ones together.

The ability to do a few simple searches by thread content would expedite.

As always @Hueco you can always tag/report. We try not to smother or reject thread topics but sometimes.... we need to consolidate.

Someone convince Andy to run for President already!!

Seriously, I couldn't agree more.
Close all the covid threads, racism, protesters, hypotheticals, basically get back to gun porn and how to's with guns!

And more gun porn

It's properly spelled "pr0n", so as to bypass the internet censor-bots at work. ;)

I didn't admit to watching this go by either and still ended up with a knot on the back of my head! How's that happen?!

You'd be welcome to come over one day, when you have time, and I'll show you how to avoid those kind of threads? Oh, maybe not, I use a PC. Maybe phone users are forced to look at things they don't want to?
