It will work. Here's a photo of my 10mm soft point round from Federal ammo. The flat edge might still catch bone enough to break thru though not as well as a true hardcast flat nose or solid like the extreme penetrator. IMO a soft point should mushroom and penetrate deeper than a hollowpoint but not as deep as a solid/hardcast, better suited for deer hunting or cougar protection.I think it will work. Filing the lead down could make it like a poor mans HP? But taking a little off the top looks like a probability.
