We need the police unions to join forces with us. Otherwise you get California where the police unions donate money to anti gun politicians and the gun control laws all have exemptions for individual officer purchases.

Its not just the police unions in CA.....

If law enforcement exemptions were removed from all the various firearm restrictions...

How? How are you going to do that? The people who write those laws put those exemptions in because they believe only police can be trusted with "large capacity" magazines and modern semiauto rifles, and to make sure they will have the support of police for those laws, and for photo ops.

The only people who could remove those exemptions are the same people who put them in in the first place. It isn't going to happen.

Some number of police make money off private sales of handguns that otherwise could not be purchased by citizens. I don't know how common it is, but anytime you remove a 'perk', expect flak.

A couple of relevant articles about CA at least (been an issue there ever since the inception of the infamous DOJ roster of handguns)...

Voter initiative, or a rider by the repubs.

It takes a lot of time and money to get an initiative on the ballot, and in Oregon it has no hope of passing even if you got it on the ballot. Who is going to vote for that? Republicans are generally pro-police and wouldn't want to restrict their equipment. People on the left think police are the only ones who should have that equipment so they wouldn't vote for it either.

The Republicans have almost no power in the Oregon legislature and no power to add "riders" to any bill. And Republican legislators are generally pro-police and wouldn't support additional restrictions on their firearms so they wouldn't want to add such a "rider". So again, never going to happen.

Unionized government employees are a crime gang against the taxpaying public. The word rape comes to mind.

They put the exemptions in solely to keep the support of the police, both to pass it, and to enforce it.

True that.
