So.. why didn't SCOTUS use this to eliminate Illinois' FOID thing, and several States' permit for firearm purchase schemes?

Here's one:

Public Trust Amendment to the US Constitution:
Sec 1. The privilege of Absolute Immunity is abolished for all elected and appointed officers and officials of the United States, and every State and subdivision thereof.

Sec 2. Any individual in a position of Public Trust convicted of a crime shall face a mandatory minimum sentence of treble the maximum sentence of an ordinary citizen convicted of the same offense, except that nothing shall be construed to authorize a capital sentence where one would not otherwise be incurred.

tl:dr The No votes were a procedural objection, two weeks later the same measure was resubmitted following correct procedural guidelines and passed the house with the Democrats overwhelmingly voting in favor of it, but it died in the Senate

LAPD, along with other departments in leftist/Marxist cities and States, now allow illegal aliens (DACA, etc.) to be police officers. They use a loophole that allows them to be armed while on duty. They are now going to allow them to own and possess firearms while off duty, which is against Federal law.
