Had a decent low power load using 4031 & cast bullets... But now Ive got a rifle that can take the high pressure stuff.

I'm looking to still be able to push my cast bullets at cowboy load levels but want to be able to bruise my shoulder a bit.

Ia there a single powder for 45-70 that has that kind of range?

IMR 4064, IMR 4198 and H4895 will all work. If you want a good all around powder the 4064 is my go to but I used all three and even 335 when I was loading 4570. The 400gr JSP I used 43gr 4198 (lever load) and 300gr JHP was 63.5gr 335 the 400gr created a six foot ball of fire with the ported guide gun.

In my Siamese Mauser, I'm still with IMR3031 after 25 years and trying a couple other smokeless powders. This rifle will digest whatever you care to feed it, including a 350gr Heavy Jacket at 2250fps.
