Wow, how little understanding you have of the Middle East. Turkey is deeply involved in the Syrian Civil War Erdogan absolutely hates the current Syrian Regime. He is also an Islamic fundamentalist, and has worked hard these past 10 years to move Turkey aways from having a secular government, and also away from democracy and freedom.
And the Sunni vs Shia conflict has been going on within Islam ever since Mohammed died. If you don't understand how it is driving much of the recent and current conflicts in the Middle East, then you don't understand what is driving the Syrian Civil War.
The Frontline news magazine TV show has been one of the very few news media that has attempted to explain the dynamics of the Syrian Civil War to the American people. They have done several programs about the war since 2013.
Watch their original show from 2013, and you will see that the Syrian Civil War is actually a religious war between two different sects of Islam. All of these shows are available to watch online:
