Good thing I don't drink or do illegal drugs :D I do wonder how Alaska is for autistic children...I get the feeling it isnt the best, being one of the most isolated American places to live in?
There are several towns the size of Monmouth/Independence up in Alaska. Anchorage(Metro Area) has a population of 400K, and Juneau(the capital) is about the size of McMinnville.
TBT, Alaska is an amazing place; God's country.
Unless one is way up in the interior (like Fairbanks), the winter weather isn't too harsh. Not much different than the Mountain States of the 'Lower 48'.
Near the coast, when it's raining and 36F here in the valley, it's 26F and snowing there.

The real issue with Alaska is how long it's dark there. 5 or 6 hours of daylight during peak winter. It can be really depressing. A large portion of the population self-medicates during the winter. So, being clean and sober, one might need another way to dull the doldrums.

On the flip-side, the opposite is true in the summer.. Hence the term "Land of the Midnight Sun".
If a person can get the F' out of Alaska during the peak winter months, Spring through Fall are excellent.

Now back to your regular M114 programming after the way off-topic post...

which is why I keep saying to stop using the word "liberal" call the Leftists what they are, Fascists. I mean the Right are the new Liberals in my opinion and I was raised Liberal.... I didn't change which is why I vote Right. But people continue to call them Liberal and call the Right conservative. Honestly everyone is dumb and we continue to do a diservice to ourselves using this language. Just my opinion.
Totally right.

Love Alaska. Used to live out near Fairbanks... Winter is really tough.

They are very serious when it come to drugs/alcohol and firearms. You don't want to get caught drinking or on drugs while in possession of a firearm up there. At least on the island where I lived. There were only 2 or 3 regular state troopers and then they brought in people to train for other areas. The beat cops were do it alls. They would pull you over for speeding, pull your body out of the drink, run swat missions to sneak up on perps and then run the investigations when the dust settled. Note to self: stay on their good side.

If I remember right they also passed a law that allowed you to build your own suppressors without registering them with the ATF via the stamp process. They had to be stamped "Made in Alaska" AND stay in the state. Its been a bit but I think thats the jist of it. I always thought that was neat.
I'm pretty sure you don't want to get caught under the influence with a firearm in Oregon either.

You are correct. I was meaning in the context of constitutional carry. You can carry a loaded gun either open or concealed in any manner that you choose but all of those rights disappear as soon as drugs and alcohol are involved. Much like a CHL here in OR except there is no permit process. You just have rights. The way it should be IMO.

Can You Carry a Firearm While Drinking in Oregon? In Oregon, it's not illegal to carry a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, whether you're in a public place or in a vehicle.Dec 4, 2024
Ok let me rephrase that, if you're under the influence and use your carry gun in a defensive scenario USCCA will not provide legal aid. Still why would any responsible gun owner carry a firearm or engage in shooting sports while drinking ? Common sense says the two do not go together. I won't even load cartridges if I've had more than two cans of beer as Darwin always seems to intervene

But one can is OK?

That is really the issue here, what do you consider "drinking"? Is it any alcohol at all, or is it some level of impairment? How do you define that when people have different tolerance levels?

Yeah I think the only time it could be deemed (lawfully) acceptable is if you're in your own home and a deadly threat somehow emerges whereby you have no other choice to defend yourself. You therefore couldn't have foreseen this situation with consumption of alcohol and using a firearm together.

I am not an attorney, however USCCA. Is pretty good about answering legal questions in relation to carry circumstances

Unless the Oregon supremes put a stay on M114, looks like the mag ban will take effect on or about April 16th. If you're going to be making any firearms purchases, probably want to get it done now if you want the mags that come with them.

As far as the "will not comply" crowd, you'll need to convince the retailers and FFL's that it's OK to sell to you. Good luck with that!

One drink is drinking in my book. It's the only way to be consistent about it
