Before the Germam flying services used this rifle, they had the Mondragon Model 1908 in 7x57mm. They were made for Mexico by SIG in Switzerland. The Mexican revolution in 1910 caused a no-sale to Mexico and most of the rifles were stuck in inventory at SIG until WW1, when the Germans took them off their hands and used them in the air service. I used to know a guy in Belgium who owned one of these in secret, because there was no legal means for him to keep it. Examples of the Mondragon are VERY valuable.
