The holster that I posted earlier can as part of an inheritance.
The family is getting old and at 79 I am the youngest of my
generation.
The holster came with a 1865 colt police pocket. It is the
1862 model gun made in 1865 according to Colt records.
Been in the family for a long time. Just cannot place who
had it before 1890.
It will remain the family as long as I can find someone who
will promise not to sell it.
The issue is that Colt says that the loading lever is not
original. Some says that it looks as if it was made by a
blacksmith.
I would like to replace it with an original loading lever.
I know that the change of finding one that some one
would sell is about impossible, but if I don't ask I will
never find one. So, does anyone have an original loading
level for a model 1862 police pocket pistol with the
longer barrel?

I'd be inclined to leave it alone. There's a reason it was replaced. The replacement lever has a history and story of it's own, which adds to the overall history of the gun.

Just my $.09 (yes, inflation affects everything!)

I'm not getting rid of the current loading lever, but I would like to
have an original lever to go with it. I am told that the levers are
very easy to lose as they drop out if the spring holding the
lever in place gets week or is not completely latched. Civil
War historians say that firing this model from horse back while
riding at a gallop was a sure way to lose the lever. :)

Have you checked for the part anywhere else? gunboards.com has members from all over the country, and even foreign countries, posting. Find the proper sub forum and make a post.

Totally agree. Also, check out the various parts corporations and websites like Numrich, Sarco, etc...
They likely wont have it either BUT they might help you find the appropriate person to ask.

Good luck in your search. Great to have something stay int he family and get passed down.
