Looks like peening to me. Bad heat treating, probably.

bought it in 2014. gen 1 shieldI have two, a 45 and a 40, both Mod 1's. I wonder if the OP's was a Mod 1 or 2.
DANG!? How did that happen? What failed?
I could make some smart azzed remark here about shelving the Shield for a Sig, (which I did) but that would be inappropriate.
Yea, but it's not one of those 320's, it's a real Sig based on the 229So could I, something along the lines of replacing a Pinto with a Yugo......

Smith & Wesson
Sig
And Glock
All were faulty heat treating.
Most showed signs of peening after 100 rounds. Pretty easy to spot
Customer service was great with all three, had replacement pistols in hand within a week.
I am sure you will but, do make sure you let us know. I am sure they are going to fix it free, as should be. Only way something like this would effect my possibly buying a gun like this is if S&W refused to deal with this. That makes me leery of a Co, if I start to hear they treat customers poorly. Most of us are pretty sure they will of course make this right, as they should.S&W has requested the firearm be sent to them for inspection
nope felt like a 9mmDid one round feel about twice as hot as the others? that took some serious over pressure to move that much metal.
I've personally gone GMC, ya know, "professional grade"I don't know why this would alarm anyone here. Plenty of you keep buying Ford/Dodge/Chevy products.......
