M&P 22 owners ever have this happen?

I've owned this pistol for several years.
I recently removed the factory thread protector to install a suppressor adapter. I removed the adapter to pull the slide off and clean it. With the adapter removed the barrel sleeve slid off and the barrel slid out the back. I'm guessing that this is normal but, I've never had the factory thread protector off until recently and was caught off guard.

I don't know about that gun but setup looks the same as Walther p22. Barrel,sleeve, adapter is just like that.
