Just remember Oregon turned "Blue" when mail in voting began..

23 of Oregon's 38 governors have been democratic, 13 Republican, 1 whig, and1 independent. The state has historically been all over the map politically and a 15 year snapshot is really just a blip on the historical map.

I think the people here who dislike Portland just dislike big cities. I'll admit the homeless situation has gotten out of hand, especially in the last year, but I love it here. I have a business here (not Real Estate), great restaurants, great people (the people I know are great), and there is a lot to do. If going out to you means going to Applebee's, you may not appreciate what a larger city has to offer. Nothing wrong with that.

The people who say they are too scared to walk around downtown sound like country bumpkins. Portland may be the largest city they have ever visited. I have frequently walked around downtown (not so much during covid) with my wife and two kids and have never felt threatened. LOL.

OTOH, we don't generally walk around crapping in our own front yards, but hey, we're the bumpkins!o_O

These aren't the same democrats of 10-20 + years ago...

Gentrification attracts expensive chain stores which don't hire local workers, and who sell products that the low-income residents either don't want or can't afford. In short, opponents say gentrification is bad because it pits the lower-income incumbents against upper-income entrants, who always seem to win.

And yet those who stand to profit the most from the practice are the same who are quick to ridicule the established classes. At the same time they love to cast themselves as enlightened and civically driven. Go figure.

All that is Marxism rebranded what used to be in leftist speak the Bourgeoisie are now those with Privilege who are gentrifying everything and displacing the the unbaked and disenfranchised.

Just like the terms equity , diversity and inclusion have replaced

From each according to his abilities to each according to his needs

Those folks are communists , the democrats got into bed with communists and socialists thinking they would leverage them for their benefit when the in truth the democrats were the ones being leveraged .

This would be why the the democrat/progressives still see potland as a great place, with a few issues. Makes sense to me.

I have said this before, on one level I feel bad for some folks who live here who have been displaced by this nonsense, but at the same time I do not. A demographic shift was instituted by the left to make this happen , Oregon also has a steeped history in progressive politics which I have learned since living here .

It can be changed because I come from a state that started out a stronghold of democrats with a strong socialist agenda , today that same state is considered by many to be the most conservative state in the union.

Unfortunately it's not a change that happens quickly and not without some growing pains.

If Truman or JFK,, or perhaps even LBJ or Carter were running for office today, they would branded by the Dems as "Extreme right-wingers".
The face of the clock has shifted a lot.
The D party used to known as the "Party of the people",, the average Joes and the blue collar workers.
But now they have embraced and given voice to all of the radical leftists, the misfits, the perpetually angry,, and any and all fringe groups that continually denigrate the country that allows them to even exist.
The left is never "happy",, they always have to "pick at scabs", open up new wounds, search for problems,, find something/anything to bit** about, or become offended by.
The left cannot and will not "live in peaceful co-existence" with anybody who doesn't agree with them.
The left has no idea,, if the country was really as they would like it to be, they would be the first to be shut down,, or "rounded up".

that was incredibly well put!

No no. God said he wouldn't flood the entire world again. He never said He wouldn't flood only Portland and give these dirty white hipster spawn a much needed bath. Have faith!!!! Or in the words of a wise old wizard , "there is always hope."

:s0094:
You are correct. The promise was to never flood the earth again. He never said anything about destroying it with fire, however. And my comment was more geared to how degenerate people have taken over even this site. But I've already said too much.

when things get bad enough the regular Joe who just wants to live life , go to work and watch espn can no longer do those things you'll start see things shift but you won't until that happens .. it's just human nature

I really don't care how much it hurts them to change their ignorant ways. I will gladly "show" them the error of their ways. :s0026:

Portland is a sewer. Been here since 2001. Literally counting the months until I can retire and move.

People from other parts of the country always say "Oh, Portland, I hear it's beautiful there". I quickly correct them.

Portland is by far the ugliest city I've ever lived in. Homeless everywhere. Grotesquely ugly architecture. Horrible traffic. Graffiti everywhere. Dirty people. Hippies. Smog. Drug markets on every corner. It's gross.
