My eyes are old and don't see that great in the dark. My HD has light and laser. The light is so I identify the target and don't shoot my wife. The laser dot is quicker and easier than trying to focus on my sights. So, yes, they do work for us old guys.

I have a weapon light that has a small (15 or 20 MOA?) bright spot in the center. Haven't practiced with it in a while though. I have to have it dark enough to see the weapon light but not dark enough for the range to be closed.
