Maybe, but my point is that it's their rules, in their house.
Rules which they don't tell u about. Also rules they violate immediately if they are on a first name basis with the customer who just walked in, despite others still waiting in an empty shop.

True, a private company can require "all patrons to wear pink bunny slippers" too, but the point is that it makes for poor customer service.

The sad reality is the 20+ of us on this post aren't going to make even an iota of a dent in their bottom dollar if we stop patronizing their store.

My last few trips to Curt's has made me a fan. Rifleworks will be my default because I like Josh and his team. But for certain things Curt's is a shop I want to keep supporting.

I like Nicholas, the manager of TD, but the ownership there is terrible. And if it's true that there's a loose connection to a cop shooter in their family, I don't see myself going out of my way for them ever.
Where is this shop? I looked up Rifleworks and found an Oregon Rifleworks out in Tigard but the map showed it on SE Main off of 122nd in Portland.

Is it on McLoughlin?

Maybe.
But, if that's how they're running things and you don't follow their direction in their store (just like any other) then they don't have a duty to help you.
You are spot on correct, period.

That being said, given the actions, deeds and policies Keith's has established, potential customers (like us) have no duty to do any business with Keith's.

Yes Tengu it is "Their Rules, in their house."

That is what this thread is all about,....

You have made your point. Now please expand on the features and benefits of doing business with Keith's.

Have you shopped with Keith's enough to feel confident saying that all of the independent accounts listed in this thread which have occurred over many years are overstated or false?

In general, not even speaking about Keith's, what would you say about an individual who does business with any entity that treats them poorly or in an insulting manor? I would say that at one point it is demeaning to one's self esteem to give money to someone who treats you poorly.

Agreed.

Point is, not giving money to Keith's, for me, is purely a matter of principal and self respect.

I am not going to give my money to someone who treats me poorly.

The benefits are that they typically have anything I want in stock, or will order it for me, and are near my home.
The only negative experiences I've had, were, in hindsight, my fault. Standing around aimlessly waiting for someone to help me never, ever got me service there. Going in with knowledge of what I want and the stones to speak up about that has always resulted in a positive experience.
If you feel you're treated poorly, split. I don't care how or where you spend money. But, to complain about something that could have been fixed if you paid better attention to your surroundings is dumb.
I never said anyones claims were false. I just said it's a shared fault.

You are added to my ignore list (it's a very short list, maybe 3-4 people). You keep saying I did things I did not do, which were explained in previous posts. Bye.

A brick-n-mortar GS has to be a tough business. I often wonder with so many complaints about them on the various local boards why someone doesn't step up, open one and do it right.

that said, I've read very few, if any, complains about Curt's.

Being an old man that's been into guns for many years I don't need the shops help. I have pretty much what I want but go into a store looking for something new. I may kick a tire or two finding that new gun but that's part of the fun.

Going into a store that has the attitude that says give me your money and get out cause I have other customers that I need to get their money sure doesn't make for a pleasant hunt. It's not a place I would hunt in again.

I get it, Keith's is the buffet of new guns. Serve yourself and give us the money and move along because we are serving as many as we can. Don't stop to talk or ask a question because you are ignorant and we shouldn't have to answer questions. Just give us your money and move along, this isn't a store that you look and compare. You better know what you want when you walk through the door or we don't have time for you. Just give us the money, we don't want your bs.

It's worked for him for decades because he keeps the buffet full and the people are hungry for guns.

I think Curt's is mostly Black Rifle.
Keith's has a wide range.
Every shop has their own unique "culture".
It's good to have a forum like this where we can air things out and know what we're getting into.

ETA
Look for ol' Keith to start charging admission (special customers exempted, of course)
Then the gun boards will really light up !

:)

I have been treated poorly and I have split.

Do you believe that it is a fair business practice to charge 10% of a firearm's purchase price to make a FFL transfer? (I would like to know if that is still his policy as that was the crowning blow to drive me away from Keith's.)

By preponderance of evidence, all of the accounts I know of from personal experience to close shooting pal's accounts, Keith's gives poor service, gouges on FFL transfers and generally runs a brisk business for people who are willing to lay their money down and leave.

Did the same thing at Bimart yesterday.
Walked up to the counter to a friendly greeting

Saw a Ruger American Ranch in 556 for $499

Bought the rifle including the bc in 15 minutes

Out the door and happy birthday to me.

Best gun shop ever was Starving Marvin's on River road in Eugene Oregon. Marvin retired and sold out but Marvin was good because he was a gun nut himself.

He was into all kinds of competition and knew guns better than any shop owner I ever met.

When Glocks came out he had about five customers in the store and demonstrated the simplicity of glocks takedown.

When Colt American 9mms came out he showed what a cluster flock it was to takedown.

Marvin got the best stuff in and he wasn't just pushing you through the door, he loved selling guns.

On a side note, Marvin had a pit bull in the store every day. If the dog saw you he would growl a little and Marvin would tell stories about what a great dog he is.

Marvin sold quality, not quantity he wasn't buffet but fine dining.

Never liked Keiths. Prices are always higher. Service has always been terrible.

These days i make most of my purchases elsewhere.
Plus the fine folks here at NWFA will usually post something i am looking for eventually so that is where i shop. I like to support my fellow 2A enthusiasts. The service is top notch. Most folks are good for a conversation during the transaction.
