Ruger has done this to EVERY gun for years. Wierd thing is, when I fire my 1965 10/22 and my 2008 10/22, while the older is a far superior gun(not unlike your older Remington's, Marlin's or Winchester's) the one thing that does not seem to effect the performance is the stamping on the barrel. It is your revolver and you can do as you wish, but for the money to remove what is merely a cosmetic issue seems extreme to me. Ruger makes a fine product and I own many of them. If the warning is a deal breaker, You can go with S&W, but of course they have the lock problem. I want one of the reissued 586's very badly, but that lock may sway my decision. My point is, I may criticize, but I totally understand the aesthetic angle. Kip
