Newbie question on swapping handguard/barrel nut…if I wanted to replace my current handguard with a longer one from same maker (swapping an expo arms ff handguard for a longer expo arms ff handguard) would I still need to swap barrel nut? Thanks!

Depends on if they changed the nuts. The nut is typically what holds the handguard if you're talking free float. If you're talking USGI, then it's a clamp on.

If the nut remains the same - No.

If the nut changed - Yes.

You're probably fine with the Expo Arms handguard(s). Maybe email them and see what they say…..
