This strategy is nothing new, and the CDC was fully invested in defining gun ownership as a disease. Doing so allows "emergency measures" devoid of citizen input, implemented by bureaucrats.

It became necessary to specifically prohibit the CDC's efforts in this regard (there's your NRA at work), and it foreshadowed their deplorable efforts with COVID.
