So I just bought a safe from a family member in Boring, Or and I live in Sandy, or. Does anyone know of a safe moving company around this area? Names and prices would be a big help. I'm just trying to decide whether to hire someone or get a few buddies and the equipment to do it myself. It's only a 7.1 mile move.

Thanks

You don't really need a company that is a specialist for this. Any moving co should be able to price you for moving it. How big is it? Weight?

H-59"
W-36"
D-25"

It weighs 700 lbs.

I just didn't know if anyone had used a company that was reasonably priced. I've called 2 companies and one wanted $550 the other was $600.

But for that price with the price of the safe I would just buy a new one and have it delivered

For that price i would just call a buddy and go rent an appliance/heavy dolly. Should take about 1-2 hours with drilling for floor mounts if you're going to do that.

Exactly my thoughts. My wife's cousin who we are buying it from said they hired a company and it took one guy. She doesn't know how the hell he did it. But it was around $140. She just can't remember who they were.

my safe was installed by one guy and its maybe the same size but twice the weight. The ancients were wise to have invented levers and rollers :)

Get the dolly that has hard wheels and a load lock and two sets of wheels.

Will go really easy after that.

Does the door come off? On most it does simply. If so for that price I would rent a dolly and get someone to help. With the door off it would not be a real big deal. Even if you have to take it all at once a few people could do it fairly easily. I'm sure you could find someone who was not a company to do this for much less. Problem with hiring someone without the business license and insurance is if something "goes wrong". The money you saved may seem like nothing by the time the lawyers get done.

My 1200lb safe was delivered and installed by 1 guy. He use a couple 1/4 inch PVC pipes and rolled it all the way from the truck, down the driveway, throught the garage and to it final resting place. With the right tools it is easy.

I know how to move it myself. What I was looking for is recommendations on companies people have used and prices to see if it's worth my time. I'd have to rent/borrow a trailer and the equipment. Plus a few hours to do the move. If I work overtime at work I make $50 an hour. So if doing it myself saves me $4-500 then it's worth it. If it saves me $50 then I'll just hire someone and not have to really deal with it

An alternate point of view. I made $24.00 per hour without overtime lumping in San Francisco ... in 1970. Sometimes moving a safe costs more than the safe costs Can you move it at 2 am without making any noise? We could. Going up stairs? Another consideration. We also tarped the load or over wrapped the safes with stenciled big letters saying Oversize Refrigerator Freezer With Ice Maker.

Also consider having the combo changed. Family is ... family. But I have no idea who there is to move your safe where you live. You may have no choice but to consider it yourself. Will you sign iron clad medical releases holding yourself harmless if one of your buddies ruins his back or crushes his foot? Lots of things can go wrong. And done properly lots of things can go professionally. Another view.

Respectfully. Ask your long term insurance agent about moving companies. Another education.

Get 2 or 3 friends and an open flat trailers. Use a dolly to get it out of the space and tilt it onto the trailer (put wood under the top end so you can tip it back up). Use the dolly to its new home. 4 guys can manhandle 700 lbs upright.
If lock is electronic (push button) open the safe and tape the door closed. Banging them around can cause issues. As long as you aren't going up steps or around tight corners you should be fine.
Oh yeah, don't forget the 12 pack!

I moved the same size and weight safe from Vancouver to Damascus. I rented a truck from Penske that had a lift gate. That made it super easy. No lifting at all.
