Sure sounds like rabid, glad the knife was enough to stop it. I have seen a LOT of these critters and never seen one act like that with adults. Rabies is a scary thing.
Week or so ago I was sitting here daytime and glanced at the screen showing the camera's around the place. I see a large Racoon in the front yard. They come around an night but are always gone by first light. First thing I thought was rabid. Went carefully out front door with weapon to see how it would react. It skedaddled as soon as I opened the door. Now last week I have seen what I assume is the same one a few times daylight. Last time it was large so seems well fed and healthy. Dogs go crazy when the see it and it runs so, so far so good.
While back there was a guy up this way somewhere, maybe SnoCo? Was attacked by a cat out hiking. It latched on him from behind but missed the target so he was able to stab it multiple times till it got weak and let go. Goes to show a good knife is better that nothing

Man even a .22 would have been better than nothing in this case. Could have shot it in the face the second it didn't back down.
