Any kind of situation that puts contaminates in the air is a good enough reason to have a good quality gas mask! Big earth quake, volcano erupting, ect.......
All legitimate reasons to have one and cartridges for it, and a means to access it quickly!

The full face respirators that we used in the nuclear industry were normally MSA. You can buy them new for around $600 each. You can also get cheaper ones made by 3m and Honeywell for $150 - $200 without filters. These are dual filter types.
