Dear Mr. President,

I heard you say you will not guarantee SS checks if the debt ceiling isn't raised.

Why is it the scare always has to do with SS, Medicare, & our Soldiers pay?

Why not stop your pay, your staff, or Congress and the Senate to save more money for our country?

Why use Seniors, Soldiers, & our Needy as examples?

Take the money from those who take no risks and reap the benefits!!

Instead of threatening to withhold Social Security, VA and disability payments of people who really need the money....

Lets hold the paychecks of all house & senate members, then see how fast they resolve the debt ceiling crisis !!!!!

just food for thought......steven

Maybe because SS + Medicare + Pentagon makes up 85% of the federal butcher's bill whereas the parasites' salaries probably make up less than 0.01%?

Withholding the politicians' pay would only make them do something even more stupid than normal... but of course their jobs should be voluntary and term-limited to 6 months to begin with.

The treasury secretary (part of the executive) has the authority to decide where checks go. So while congress has the authority to decide what the budget is, if there are insufficient funds to meet all the obligations, the treasury has to decide who to pay first.

Sure, but at this point, thats alot like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Who comes up with these stupid metaphors?

The congress passes a budget saying they will spend X amount. The treasury says great, but we only have 1/2 of x. How does your budget work now? Do you start writing checks for the full amount until you have exhausted your 1/2x dollars? Do you write checks for 1/2 the amount?

While it would be nice if instead of raising the debt limit, the congress just redid the budget and accounted for the debt limit, and cut spending to match the amount of income they will have. At that point, the debt limit will become a de facto balanced budget requirement. The problem either way, is when it comes down to actually writing the checks everyone wants to play politics. I havn't heard AARP's outrage over the pending forfeiture of SS checks, instead they are yelling at congress to make them whole and give them the money they want. Any proposed decrease to SS funding or any other social entitlement spending will result in ads like this:

So when it comes to not sending out checks and blaming your opponent for your inaction who is to blame? Seems to me if you promised it, you better be able to back it up, otherwise it's you that loses your job.

Political discussion not directly about the 2nd amendment. Nauseating. Get over it. We have an Oligarchy folks. The global bankers and corporate elite run the show, there is no point in arguing about the so-called decisions of a sock puppet anyway. B.O. makes -0- important decisions. A cardboard standee and a speaker would perform the same function.

"They are coming for your retirement money so they can give it all to their criminal friends on Wall St, and they'll get it. Why? Because they own this bubbleguming place!" - G. Carlin.

9. All political discussion must be directly related to firearms, gun rights, or the second amendment.

There are many different people here with many different viewpoints on various issues. Like religion, discussing these issues here is highly likely to offend and very little good can come of it. We need to be focusing on the things that bring us together (firearms), not the things that have the potential to divide us (politics).
