I see little compassion here for 8 dead Americans of unknown political lean. Honest question... Devil's advocate or whatever. As someone that exercises their 2a rights, as a gun owner, does anybody here have tangible ideas on how to better control mass shooting events?

Do you perceive that mass killings will stop even if all the guns in the world went "poof" and disappeared. Terrorists in France have rented Uhauls and just rampaged down crowded sidewalks / farmers markets.

The flaw in every leftist argument about banning things to stop evil is the fact that evil intent will use any means to commit mass killing. Fertilizer and diesel fuel comes to mind.

You will never control mass shooting events. Bad people WILL do bad things. They have been doing them for a very long time, and will continue to do them well into the future.

There is no one size/ fits all answer to your question, and the more "Answers" you come up with, the more problems that come along to sap the wind from your sails! The sad truth of it is this: no amount of action we could take will ever fully drive the evil thoughts or intent from peoples hearts, period! To wish that is ignorant and folly. Man has been killing each other for millions of years, and taking away one tool isn't going to even slow them down, just look at countries where they have tried! No sir, these are not the answers and certainly not the answers your looking for!
We could list the solutions out here, that would take a thousand pages of heartfelt thought and considerations and we would only scratch the surface of that topic!
The best and smartest/wisest answer is to remove all restrictions and like they say, let nature run its course! The only way to fight evil is to remove all restrictions against it! By denying evil the easy, it becomes much harder, and evil will look elsewhere to do its I'll good!!

Shoot the evil people faster when they start to do evil things.

The dead American rate when private citizens stop these evil people is significantly less than when police finally arrive to do it.

What I posted above is only part true, we do have ONE answer, one that has been proven to work in the past with great success, and yet to even suggest we go back to doing what worked, would piss off a lot of folks, even many good folks here!
That solution has but one word, INSTUTIONALISATION, Hard Stop!

We spend far more trying to come up with humane solutions to society's broken individuals, when the most humane thing we could do is to put them in an institute to be cared fore with out risk to society, but we turned from that path, and instead, we try to be more humane, let people be, and let them do what they do, and we the society are the ones to suffer the actions of those whom should not be allowed to exist in society!

It's not their fault they were born broken, but society has no place for them to exist amongst the people, so,..............

you cant control or legislate violent crime, the percentage of society thats violent has never changed and never will. There are no total solutions to that problem.
But one alternative to impending gun control would be to stop prohibiting lawful sane people from being able to defend themselves. California is a prime example, and im sure the company was a gun free zone policy as well.

We have a society that has diminished the value of the life of the unborn, devalued the lives of the elderly/geriatric, heck we've just devalued life in general. We've turned our backs on the mentally ill, and allow large pharma to dominate the conversations regarding mental health. As a society, we've removed God from every aspect possible, and thrown absolute morals before swine...

Is it any wonder that we see these mass shooting events? Every weekend is a mass shooting event in places like Chicago...

Perhaps we need to start valuing life again, and operating from a base of absolute morals, as a society if we ever hope for things to get better.

like the recent Fort Smith shooting. One FBI study showed 8 out of 10 citizen interventions stopped a mass shooting, but the media wont talk about that and politicians make gun free zones legal in Oregon you become a felon for what was lawful carry with a state authorized permit and want to reduce the penalties for violent convictions... ..it doesnt make sense and were just sitting ducks waiting to become a gun control statistic.

They dont like individual liberties and independence, they want the government to care for everyone equally... including crime and self defense. The problem is there will always be a majority of people who dont choose to take responsibility for their own personal protection, so that feeds the socialist cause of disarmament to make it harder for criminals to use weapons. The flaw in their program is you also cant legislate equality of outcomes it just doesn't work... The rich will always have more protection than the poor, and there will always be a rich class as well no matter what they say. Its near impossible for conservatives to fight this because there will always be a majority that are poor who naturally want more so we continue to get disarmed by the majority until history repeats itself.

Well, the answer is not more gun control. The government wants disarmament. So that can't be the correct answer. Pointing fingers at the left dosen't fix anything. Using logic to fight emotion is useless.
Different weapons are used. So what is the common denomanator? Bingo, the bad guy.
What do the bad guys have in common? I am sure the FBI or some other agency has that data.
Was it mental illness, medication or lack of, illegal drugs, ptsd from getting their fellings hurt?
My guess is mental illness, improper medication or withdrawl from said meds.
Maybe if cause could be found why bad guys do what they do.....
We as gun owners (a minority) could bring a class action lawsuit for not keeping us safe from the bad guys.
Maybe SAF or GOA could help us come up with answers, form letters to send out asking for better mental health.
It seams we are always putting out fires. How do we lite one under our elected to protect the 2A?
