I think if you work for Or city police they will chop up your guns for free.

For the last 5>6 years my EDC has always been an Adamas.
Small folder for Sunday-go-to-meeting.
Large folder for warm weather, the fixed, (with TPGrips,) for winter.

From the article mentioned in message 4 above.
BM: Benchmade now has a policy to politely decline to assist Law Enforcement in the cutting up of firearms regardless of reason. If the local law enforcement request assistance with other matters, we will be happy to accommodate them as long as doesn't involve cutting firearms.

Too late. The damage is done. They would still be cutting them up if there wasn't such a big public backlash (ie loss of revenue).

The OTHER issue with B.M is their "Life Time Warranty" ain't Life time at all, ( Not even Tail Light Warranty) and not only that, they will NOT service or repair a customers knife or make any effort whatsoever to make it right with the customer, in fact, the front desk is a bit of a nasty karen gatekeeper and has on many occasions seriously pissed off customers who were simply there to have their Life Time warranty honored! Seems B.M. has gotten a really big head, and it's reputation and name recognition no longer matter, and worse, nobody takes it seriously there any more! They just continue to offer really expensive crap they have no intention of standing behind! I can go to CRKT, Leatherman, or Gerber and get spendy crap, and at least they stand behind their spendy crap! I have a O.G. Gerber multi tool, long out of production and to this day, I can stop in and hand it off and a few days later, they have repaired or replaced whatever broken part(s) I had and the tool is good as new! Pretty much the same deal at Leatherman!

At the asking price for a B.M. this is a major upset in the way of things, having spoken to the other Knife makers owners or senior managers, most of them do and continue to honor their warranty commitments, but NOT B.M!

The Gun thing was bad enough, that it took some pretty serious damage control after the fact, AND,, it took an outside force to get the word out, that's telling and dosn't convince me that they are any more pro 2A then they were before!
Kind of like Even Hafer at BRCC when he went all hard core Democrat and then doubled down on his stance, claiming to be Pro2A, and yet supporting anti 2A agendas!
Nothing like doing something STUPID that shows your true colors, and then having to do damage control afterwards and trying to restore your reputation, whie not having actually changed YOU yourself! Public image is everything, and once damaged, you never recover those it affected when it happened!

I dont believe they are or even were anti gun but agree they should have known better as a pro gun company. They are paying a heavy price for it...

I am agnostic on the whole firearms thing. It was not a straight forward issue, and while I think agreeing to the work was a serious misstep I am willing to take prior advocacy as a mitigating factor. I also considered their policy change as an acceptable mi culpa.

What breaks it for me is the service. BM constantly gets bottom marks from collectors for service, and I am not willing to patronize them when there are so many better options on the market. I would avoid them with or without the scandal.

Is the poor service a recent thing?

Because I have witnesses excellent customer service above and beyond expectations in the past.

It's been pretty bad the last 20+ years, in fact, my only visit was in 2001, the receptionist was a thunderkunt first class with oak Leif clusters and diamonds, and she made it abundantly clear, my business was unwanted, and would not be welcome in the future! I'm far FAR from the only one to have this experience with them, so yea, it's a common enough thing with them!

I only ever had one experience with them on service, and I declined their offer (had to use their shipping service, which was more than 3 times the going rates for average shipping). I have heard from multiple other people of poor service too, everything from denied warranty repairs to simply stating they no longer had parts for that model "but well sell you something else at a discount!"

I am sure a decent amount of people do have good experiences with their service, but the problem is that seems to be rolling the dice. That is an unacceptable state of affairs when their competitors can offer great services on similar products for the same price. If they had something else to offer in exchange for the gambling on service I would be more forgiving; cheaper price on a comparable product? Poor service is the trade-off. Superior product as the same price point? Ditto. But not giving me something in exchange for the poor service, when I can get it from somewhere else, is not a way to maintain a customer base.

As far as I am concerned they are simply trading on their prior reputation, and it will take a while for the good will in the entire market to peter out, but from where I sit it looks like it is trending that way. I am not sure what their sales say, but I would not be surprised if they are trending down too.

A knife company helping get rid of guns is just competition - "can't bring a knife to a gun fight, huh? We'll see about that."

I have no knowledge of their F&F Sales or any other issue discussed here, I just wanted to fire off that joke.

Besides the prices, my biggest gripe with BM is their selections, too many skinny lightweight effete "bug stabbers" and not enough real "work" knives and fixed blades.
Much of what they sell for EDC looks like stuff that a guy in a suit would use to open mail at the office.
Remember that line in the Crocodile Dundee movie?
Where he says, "That's not a knife, this is a knife"
BM makes too many of the "That's not a knife" knives and not enough of the "This is a knife" knives.
