I remember the "good old days" when you could order a medium rare hamburger! I think someone made it illegal to sell hamburgers that aren't cooked to the consistency of shoe leather.

I cook at home and have for several decades. I also cook with my girl friend. The food is better, costs a fraction of what they charge in the restaurant and we can enjoy a bottle of wine without mortgaging the house.

I find it much harder to cook for one... when I am by myself. Most of the time I will cook and my daughter and her girl friend will clean.

I just had exceptional cooking in a restaurant. Langbaan, in Portland.

Though I did pay $450 for dinner for two.

Who goes out for macaroni?? Spaghetti Factory (soggy garbage, it's not al dente like it should be), Olive Garden,...

You can make that stuff at home.
Absolutely. I've never ordered spaghetti at a restaurant. Not once has it been better than homemade. If I'm going to go out, I try to get stuff I don't cook.

I never order fish when out to dinner. Fish is either perfect or too dry. I like white fish but only if home cooked.

What happened to all the good places to eat. the cooking has gone down hill in every restaurant out there. slow decline over the last 20 years or so. steep decline since COVID. even steeper over the last few years.smaller portions, prices through the roof. I remember the eighty's when buffets were at their peak. even the nineties when you could get a good chicken fried steak on I90 anywhere from Spokane to Fargo. pre made heat and eat now. there are a few good places left. the OLD SPAGHETTY Factory for one. even Los Dos used to be good but the portions have shrunk by half.
North 3rd in stayton is the best breakfast around, but it's not cheap. The little beaver in lyons was #1 but he went to those pre froze chicken fried steak. Good Chinese food is hard to find too, red apple in stayton was good tell they sold. We eat out about once every 3 months

Well, I learned something new today. Didn't know N 3rd serves breakfast, it's been a while since I've been there, may have to give em a try one morning this weekend. Their lunch and dinner are pretty darned good, and beer, well they got that too so I'm a fan. Breakfast beers taste better on the weekend, my boss doesn't like me having them mid week for some stupid reason :D

Some bosses just ruin all the damn fun :D

Nope. Dinner after working at the club. I got a lot of money stuffed down my g string that evening - it must have been the extra glitter - so I blew it on food. And crack of course.
Thai is one of my favorites, sounds like you enjoyed the experience. Whether it's the dinner or shaking your money maker for dollars, you're out of my league!

Dont come to Portland. Actually, it's not that bad just mostly don't come here for the Thai food.

You may want to go to James Beard awards or many of the national restaurant awards and surveys. You will find several Portland restaurants listed as the best in the US. But maybe food quality in the US is gone down.
