Also the part on how they say the brain automatically gives you "tunnel vision" so you can focus on the threat and you won't notice what's going on around you unless you are a tactically trained LEO is not entirely true.

When I had a gun pulled on my I noticed the guy peaking from around the door a good 6-8 feet to my left. I also noticed the guy 5-6 feet behind the guy in front of my with a gun pointed at me. I am not a tactically trained LEO and I still managed to see the "hidden" dangers.

Rule #1 - Never trust the News tell the truth. (they will bend, twist, cut out of context and just plain misrepresent.

I watched the 1st 20 minutes - 'Spinformation" -Whrrrrrrrrrr Goes the Top.

IF you saw the previews - for the show - The self-defense against an armed attacker coming in an starts blasting.

They say that they tak 4-5 people and give them some training - People with little to a lot of experience with firearms..

They use a modified round like a blank with a small paint tip. So that people can see if they were hit.

The Gunman is Police firearm instructor - Who just happens to know and go after the only person armed with a firearm in the room ( in every scenario - he must have been a Psychic Shooter :s0114: :s0114: )

The class all have a full face gas mask style mask on-- Yeah I walk around downtown Portland all the time with one on :s0140: )

All the students are wearing long white baseball jerseys. Which is also used to cover the thumb break belt holster of the lone armed Defender.

So the way that it is presented is that - All the F-o-F Juices (fight or flight) keeps you from being able to defend yourself effectively .

This scenario - better represents an Ambush on the Police than all the mass shootings we have had over the past month. Yes training is important. Yet the way it is presented is that it is impossible to carry for self-defense effectively.

Yeah if your at a shooting rampage and your in the line of fire of the first few people shoot - You might be dead - If your armed and alive - hearing gunfire as a shooter is walking through. Then it is a different story for that shooter.

Some of us Adrenaline Junkies - think and perform incredibly well in these type situations ( Yeah Paper targets and Bambi's Brother doesn't shoot back.) That speed steels champion - I would love to see him do a tactical mag change with bullets whizzing by your head and feet . I know that the memory muscle might be in place. But that 2 sec mag change isn't 2 seconds in the fog of war or the midst of a firefight.

Yet true; your best protection is being aware of the situation around you an staying alert - this will often keep you alive as much as a weapon- I have walked the street's in the Middle East and Asia at all hours of the day and night -armed and unarmed. Much of the battle is situation awareness.

Yet the likelihood of being at a rampage shooting is small compared to meeting a few thugs or thug who want something of your's either on the street or interrupting them at your home. This is a much more realistic and plausible situation.

Yeah we have too much Gun violence in Video games and on TV and in the Movies.

They say that 1 in 3 homes owns a gun. ( often "hidden" unlocked and loaded. )

Take them hunting ( the kids - don't leave load guns hidden - loaded they should be under your control or locked up) A kid who has shot a squirrel or yote or woodchuck or other varmint - has far greater respect for firearms than the kid that has only seen it on TV.

I took some phone books and some 1/4" steel plate to demonstrate to my oldest daughter the power of firearm.

I am taking her to an Appleseed this year.

Kids are more curious about the hidden - and less interested in that new "item" when they have had a chance to interact with it - toys are a good example.

Yet when I went through Basic Training I still saw people do stupid shat. The DI almost went ballistic on some of them.

But the ABC was a crock of steaming...

But SPIIIIIIIIINNNN goes the top.

The Tunnel vision their is some truth to it - Our body has autonomic responses that are almost impossible to train out. Trained reflexes and natural reflexes.

I would like some one to train to not blink when something moves rapidly toward the eye or to have your eyes not contract when you shine a bright flashlight.

One of the autonomic responses in F-o-F -your eye has an occular dialtor muscle - it dilates your pupil - to let more light in ( even in bright situations ) in F-o-F point shooting is going to winout over frontsight press just because eye focus and fine motor skills go out the window. - Digestion shuts down a lot of other systems shuts down or slow in you body.

So some of this is true it is how the whole scenario was set up - is what is a false pretext.

In an ambush your ambushed - The "tactical trained LEO" is more for offense than for day to day defense - yet we still see officers shot.

The only way to train for this is to live the lifestyle -but you will probably end up with PTSD.

Yes, I am not sorry for my Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder. My sleep is bad, and I have bad dreams several times a week, but I have learned to pull myself out and wake up, and just go and PISS it out, or get up EARLY!

Meanwhile, when I am out and about the city, I am wide awake in a way that "normal" people cannot imagine. I have a "spidey-sense" that was hard won and very useful. I see things that nobody else notices---the predators amongst us, and they see me seeing them. It's kind of like that old tv show "Highlander," when one Immortal "feels" the presence of another. It's like the grasslands of Africa, when one predator rises up and sees another looking back above the tall grass---mutual recognition.

The best part is being able to look ordinary and "sleepy" when encountering predatory evil! I LOVE being underestimated!

Dang, now i forgot what we were talking about..........................elsullo :D

Oh I know it's true, I was not disputing that part, but in my particular case I was face to face with a pistol and my vision wasn't tunneled, I was able to see the other dangers around me and made an immediate decision to not attempt to disarm the guy since he had three others with him and I could only assume they had guns as well. I also had to protect my girlfriend, at the time. The untrained average American is inept, according to this program. But I, an untrained average American, managed to be alert enough to see the danger right in front of me, the danger behind the immediate danger, and the danger peaking through the door to my left. Not to mention having the state of mind to move away from my girlfriend so the gun was no longer pointed at her, through me.

I'm not arguing the truth about that, I'm just saying... I've never had any official training and I would consider myself a rookie when it comes to all this, but I still could function rather well... maybe I'm one of those adrenaline junkies that excels when danger is present... I don't know, all I know is I am not the only one. In the end, a lot of that crap was circumstantial and not based on anything but opinion.

You didn't really expect to see John Stossel did you....he might say something that's against the agenda.

I enjoyed at the end how she said that they could not find one CREDIBLE study that shows the benefits of carrying firearms. Am I really to believe that they took an objective look at opposition studies? Who decided what was credible?
