Just got back from our fishing trip to Bamfield BC. The weather and the fishing was the best we have ever experienced in the 4 years we have been doing this. We ran my boat the 150 miles from Anacortes to Bamfield in record time due to great water conditions and my recent repower. We landed right on fish the first evening but held out killing any looking for a better grade of fish. Next morning we started in and released many fish but did retain a 14lb Chinook that was badly bleeding and a 8lb Coho. We hunted around and finally landed on a better grade of Chinook and killed several 19-23 lbs and some nice Coho. The rest of the week was a bit hit and miss with many fish but only a handful in the size class we were looking for. That all changed Thursday eve when we landed on an epic bite and put 4 good Chinooks on the boat up to 28 lbs and released some beauties up to 16-17 lbs. Friday we slept in and did some Lingcod fishing later culling a few to retain or 3 fish limit for the crew. Sat morning we made the run home in 4.5 hrs on a flat ocean averaging 32mph plus. In the end we put around 100 salmon to the boat and the12 Chinook we kept averaged 20 lbs plus. The 12 Coho we kept were average size but in great shape. If ever you get a chance to do this trip I highly recommend it. I even have a great guide recommendation for those without their own boats. Tight lines all!
