I've read postings on the internet and seen photos of a Mosin shooting 147 gn silvertips and penetrating AR 500 steel
so, I just tried it
Mosin 91/30 28" bbl
target at 100 yrds
AR500, 3/8" thick on swinging mount

the silvertip didn't leave any different mark on the steel than any modern Bear ammo
I shot:
147 silvertip
174 FMJ
203 softpoint

they all left the same imprint in the steel - just splattered across the ground below

side note - I had to put on a padded shooting jacket for the 203 Brown Bear - that stuff has some kick
and I let the r ifle slide up onto my color bone once - that hurt!!

The Silver Tipped 149 grain Boat Tail bullet in this ammunition is unique in that it has a steel shank in the center of the projectile beneath an exterior coating of lead that is bonded to the bullet jacket. This allows the projectile to stabilize in flight and provides the accuracy and penetration of a steel core round while not being harsh on the barrel or bore as is the case with a full hardened steel core. It is the absolute best of both worlds. Also, the Boat Tail Bullet is more aerodynamic and allows for a flatter trajectory and greater accuracy over a long distance.

I've holed 3/8" AR500 steel at 100yds with 6.5cm 140gr BTHP. It belonged to a friend. I replaced it with 1/2".

was that swinging when you shot it
did you mean 6.5mm
if so, which round - can i assume 6.5 Creedmoor
6.5 Grendel steel jacket barley make my AR 500 swing
and I've shot my swinging steel with lots of surplus 30-06 FMJ - not even a dimple
even some of that hot Turkish surplus 8mm mauser
guess we have different grade steel
I'm using Caldwell AR500 from Sportsman's Warehouse
rated to 3,5000 ft lbs of energy - does you 6.5 exceed that?

I'll try silvertip on a fixed target sometime, I have a half dozen 6" 3/8" plates

here's our setup
the 6" steel swings over the bar and resets after being hit

I hit the 6" plate with a scoped Rem 700 in .308 with 24" bbl
was shooting LC M118LR FMJ - the disk just swung over the bar
had a 16X scope so I aimed for 3 different quadrants on the plate

the hits on the big plate in the lower right are from the Mosin today
hits in the upper left are Turkish 8mm Mauser FMJ

I've got three gongs made of 1/2 inch AR500 that I had made at Haskins in Spokane, they are not the chinese crap you buy at Sportsman's Warehouse. Thus far they have been hit with everything from 338 Lapua to 5.56 between 200 and 600 yds and nothing has even come close to holing them. Most AP, including US 30 cal black tip leaves a smallish ding.
