Obviously these were none of the elk I have hunted the last 10 years. They were so smart and hid so well they would have crossed one at a time and been roped off to each other.
 
This morning I saw five walking along the road out front. They appeared to be in pretty good shape; however, with the snow depths and temperatures being what they are, I suspect we'll have an unfortunate loss of animals this winter in this area. OTOH, if we have a major warm-up then that might change things... I don't see a warm-up on the way, though.
