Are you capable of making a 200 yard shot to a 1/2" or less target with iron sights using an M1?

This washer is wider than .5" in diameter. To claim that I can even see this with the naked eye at 200 yards would be impressive.

I'm 36 years old and have 20/20 vision. If yall can pull this shot off at 200 yards I am extremely impressed. There are plenty of shooters who are better than I.

A .30 cal bullet is .2" smaller in diameter than the target. The margin for error is a razors edge. With that said I may be completely misunderstanding the intention of the question.

This is why we have the MK19.

20/20 is "normal/perfect"; but 20/15 means can see clearly at 20 feet what people clearly can only see at 15. The much rarer case is 20/10 which is "exceptionally sharp vision", seeing things clearly at 20, feet what normal sees only at 10 feet.

I believe mine was between 20/25 to 20/30 (or slightly nearsighted). My mother is farsighted, needing glasses for much closer things

Either way I can't see a .5" solo object at 200 yard. Haha. I need them bubbles glasses.

No. The M1 iron sights line up well with a standard "SR" NRA target for 200 yards. A "SR-1" for reduced 100 yard.
The target has to be large enough to see! Here are 200 yard "SR" targets for 200 yards from the pits at DRRC match.

You give me 100 tries and maybe I could hit once or twice. This would be considered a shot of luck as far as I am concerned. Those that say they could do it consistently are either misunderstanding the challenge or have an inflated sense of their equipment capabilities and skills. I would be impressed if there was even an M1 Garand capable of 1/4 moa accuracy in a machine rest.

I hope that's not the combo to your gun safe written on your palm!

I had 20/400, got lasik surgery and enjoyed 20/15 vision for 30 years, but now I'm down to 20/20 and need readers for anything closer than 3'-4' of....

:(

Plus, walking through the frozen foods section while grocery shopping during summertime just isn't quite the same anymore....

With enough ammo anyone can hit it eventually no matter if they can see it or not.

M1 rifles are 2-3 moa rifles typically and maybe 1 moa if accurized and having a good day. So no one could do it reliably.

I can hit a 18" x 24" target at 500 yards two out of three shots from prone using a sling. At that distance, the white painted steel is a tiny white dot in the middle of the front post.

With enough ammo and a big enough target so I have something to aim at, sure. Consistently, without anything behind it, not a chance.
