I'm guessing the reason we cant shoot people for mere property theft is because too many people used that as an excuse to shoot people for mere trespassing or they didn't like.
Well, you CAN if you plant a gun on them afterwards :s0140:

Leaving them crucified on the front lawn makes a stronger statement
I have a friend with dual citizenship in USA and KSA. They do a version of crucifixion over there for the worst offenders. Rapists and child molesters mostly. They cut off their head and put it on a spike and then they hang the body up via a crane and leave it there, in a public square for all to see. For days.

He's seen this, as well as thieves getting a hand cut off, or a regular ole beheading for the crime of murder. I really think if we had punishments like this, there would be a lot less kiddie diddlers around.

Look up sex offenders on the registry in your zip code. They are everywhere. I have one living on the next street over and about 8 houses up.

this is why gun ownership is not easy,
No, gun OWNERSHIP is easy - it's when they are carried/used for self defense is when it can become difficult.

Impulsiveness, failure to understand the laws - or to abide by them and the gun owner can have problems.

And in some cases it is nothing more than 'bravado'. In my years of gun ownership I have read (and heard) many times where it is obvious the 'owner' seemed hopeful or eager to use a gun in self defense.

One of the worst outcomes for actions like what was done in the OP is...

That all firearm owners are "painted with the same brush stroke "...and or...
Held accountable for the actions of others.

It pays in the long run to be on you best behavior when out and about with your firearms...
Or doing something in the public eye with your firearms.

It has been said to not judge all within a group by actions of individuals within a group.
However...that is done , dare I say , daily , to firearm owners.
And yes I know that the above can be said of many other groups.

MAKE PEDOPHILES AFRAID AGAIN!

Stop electing them to public office...

I'm guessing the attempted thief felt bad for the owner and just wanted to save them from extensive repair bills. Then, the guy shoots him? What's the world coming to?:(

Hey, I am a Jeep lover!!

We're a Jeep family too, just dropped a reman 4.0 in my son's WJ, I just picked up a WJ last week to make a wheeling rig. I've always wanted an XJ but am too tall to fit comfortably in one. So, WJ is the answer. Still has solid front and rear axles and plenty of creature comforts on the trail to keep the wife cozy. Your rigs look very nice.

this is why gun ownership is not easy, I can totally understand person can be very angry over personal properties. because you worked hard and took care of it.

but again, as a gunowner you have to learn how to control yourself. yes, it's not easy but otherwise you can be in very bad situation over small mistake.

hope nothing serious happen to the owner.
In the early west of you stole a man's horse, you got shot or hung, because the owner could die without it.

I wonder if the Jeep owner had a Ford Mustang for a hood ornament. Just thinkin' 🤔

There is an awful lot of information missing from that article. At first blush it certainly looks like the owner didn't have a right to be using his firearm but there are a lot of "blanks" in the story.
