Pros
  • I was looking for a popular riflescope. It was sold out everywhere I checked, even online there was a long backorder wait. Keith's had it in stock. And the price was 20% less than anyone else.
Cons
  • Do Not expect to be treated like most retail outlets treat people. By contemporary standards of retail customer service, this place is different.
I can put up with "attitude" for a unbeatable price and to get the item I want.

In the end - No one used profanity, I did not get beaten up, and I was free to go after I purchased the scope no one else had in stock.

IMHO, I have noticed that firearms sales people, in general, are not especially well informed about the products they sell. And because of this, I don't want a smile and a sales pitch anyway. I do my homework and make my own decisions. Also, many of the opinions expressed about different firearms & accessories are subjective anyway.

Pros
  • Amazing selection of used fire arms.
  • Friendly customer service
  • A lot of knowledge on old and new firearms
Cons
  • You better have a game face if you want to make a deal.
Went in years ago to sale a XDM, but I didn't have much experience with haggling because this is America. That friendly smile left that man's face and he looked like I was dealing with a lawyer. Funny after the fact, but was jarring at the time.
Great service on a first handgun sale.

Pros
  • Straightforward, no bull
Cons
  • Often a line
Recently bought my first handgun from Keith's Sporting Goods after a recommendation from a friend. It turned out to be the right choice. Not only did they have all four guns on my short list in stock, but the prices weren't jacked up at all like a lot of places seem to be. The guy helping my was straightforward, informative, helpful and took his time to explain everything about each gun with out bias. No overt political crap aside from the silly Trump caricatures on the wall. They even sold me 250 rounds of 9mm as a one time offer with the gun sale. All in all, a positive experience.

Great experience all together, The person that helped knew his guns and took the time to help me find what I was looking for and I did not feel rushed or pressured.

I pick up something from Keith from time to time. Keith is hard to see as he stays busy and every other request I have is special and has to go through him. The sales people seem to not really know their stuff and are so busy; I always feel a bit rude being assertive enough to get their attention. If you can get their attention and already know what you want (becasue again, they may or may not know what they're talking about or have any experience with what they are talking about) they have decent enough prices on most things.
Worth a stop, but don't plan on it being a quick stop or getting great service or learning much.
But hey, if you leave with a sweet new toy, that's what it's all about right?

  • Great selection and price.
Cons
  • Snobby
Well, I keep going back when I want a new firearm due to their price and selection. That said, I may be done with them anyway. The staff seems a bit snobby, and at times like the customer is interrupting them from something important. They need to remember who keeps them in business.

Pros
  • Lots and lots of guns. Great deals on used guns sometimes.
Cons
  • Keith is a jerk. And for being the self-proclaimed biggest gun shop in portland, they are horribly understaffed and never ever answer their phones. Their overworked staff are often rude and/or unhelpful too.
If you can deal with the staff, location, and Keith, then you will likely find what you're looking for. Sometimes for a great price. But is it worth it...

Pros
  • Local shop, a lot to choose from
Cons
  • Some staff mostly cares about commission
I live within 1 mile from this shop. The owner Keith and his wife are great. I've bought everything from rifles, handguns, magazines, ammo from each and they always treat me well.

One staff in particular the asian one, Twan clearly cares more about his commission, so much so that my interaction with him the last 3 times I've been there means I won't be returning.

I came in looking for a rival sfx trophy edition which they did not have. He quickly lost interest and try to sell me on another more expensive gun. I declined and before I could finish he proceeded to walk away.

I asked for magazines for another firearm which they also didn't have. He began to walk away again.

Third time stopping him since they require you sign in or else I would have just waited for another available sales rep. I ask for ammo, he grabs 1 box and proceeds to walk away. I wanted 3, so I flag him again and ask for a different caliber. AGAIN he proceeds to walk to the register before I could finish.

Two previous experiences were similar when shopping for rifle case and ammo

It's a shame I drive by here almost daily yet I am more driven to go to AFT.

Everyone else there is at least helpful if you happen to be called by them, young white guy being the most helpful

Pros
  • Low prices and large selection
Cons
  • Horrible customer service and extremely bad attitude toward people.
It's like get your money out right now and buy it cause you are too stupid to talk to. Shop is crowded and you can't see the guns even when you get close to counter. Better know what you want, get in and get out because the place is not friendly. It's like cattle herded through the place. Best if you know what you want you buy it while they are at a gun show.

  • Very Busy (but understandably so)
Popped in for the first time recently to see what all they had (and to see if they may have had some 7.7x58). Selection seemed good, and the staff were very busy but helpful. Not only did they have 7.7 I was looking for but some other harder to find ammos for milsurp rifles as well.

Pros
  • Lots of new weapons
  • The guy that helped us was nice
Cons
  • BGC are way over industry standard cost
  • extra forms beside 4473 to fill out
  • Wouldn't supply me with state BGC number
  • Misleading BGC pricing online
  • #2 guy was rude
Went in for a private party BGC. Not only did we get to fill out the standard 4473, but also 2 other forms, one being private party sale (copy supplied to seller only) and an in store sales slip for the rifle coming from the store to me. They ran the rifle for being stolen through the state police prior to completing paperwork or the actual BGC. Paperwork took over 45 minutes to complete; not sure if the counter guy was overwhelmed or just couldn't stop talking about everything to everyone. Then the BGC, which for me only took minutes due to CHL. The advertised price on the website says 50.00 for transfers. More than most charge, but OK, the location was a mid point for both of us. Not until I'm getting ready to check out am I informed that the 50 is just for them to keep and I get to add the 10 for the state. OK again, but let them know they should clarify online. Or....maybe I should have read more. 50.00 is the minimum and it goes up from there. Plus I got the added bonus of the #2 guy, not the one that helped us, being rude about it, so bonus me. At the end I was refused the actual state police BGC # confirmation and only given a number that corresponded to the stolen weapon check. Might be the same number, but the guy that helped us couldn't tell me if it was and the #2 guy told me that's all I get from them.

There were lots of new guns. Very few used guns. Was told no one is selling right now.

I had heard about this store through the years from friends and never visited because of what people told me. Before heading there today I read some of the reviews here and the place really lived up to what most irritated people about it.

First time, last time for me. Lots of better options out there for better customer service and pricing for PP BGC.

I've been in there a few times, getting reloading supplies and odds and ends. Usually, I knew what I wanted and got it without much hanging around. When I was shopping for a rifle and handgun, it seemed like the folks there just couldn't care less about helping me when I had questions. That was about a year ago; but it left an impression as I purchased the guns I mentioned elsewhere and now think about other gun shops when deciding on future purchases.

  • most firearm inventory in Oregon
Cons
  • Rude customer service. You are not a person of equal value in the eyes of the staff. God help you if you ask a question.
When I ask to see something, I do not expect the service to roll their eyes.
I asked to see just one thing Little Missy. Look here! I've got money in my pocket, and your job is to sell stuff. Figure it out!

  • Okay customer service, depending on who you get.
Cons
  • Outright poor customer service.
  • Lousy attitudes.
I've dealt with Keith's off and on over about the past 15 years or so. That being said, I've never actually bought a gun from them....the last time I was in their store was probably around 2014 or so (I had to make up the date in this review), maybe earlier (2012?). However, I've seen both the good and the bad from this shop.

One time I went in there, and the experience was very pleasant. The guy I spoke to was helpful and knowledgeable and very polite.

Another time I was given an eye-roll and sarcastic reply by some bald-headed d-bag at the Expo Gun Show because I had the audacity to mention a competitor's prices on an AK-47....I walked right over and bought said AK-47 from their competitor because of that interaction (I still have it, in fact), and I'm glad I did because the man I bought the gun from was extremely polite and appreciated my business.

Another time I went in there, and a redheaded freckled girl, I guessed probably mid-to-late teens at the time, looked completely disinterested in what she was doing and handed me pistols to look at without checking them first, and with two fingers as if she were handing me a bag of dog crap or something. She was probably related to Keith somehow; his niece perhaps; I don't imagine she lasted long.

If you want my advice: go in there confidently, with a clear idea of what you want, when you are ready to make your purchase. If you go in there to wander around aimlessly and slump against the counter like you just ran the Boston Marathon, then don't count on much. They are watching each customer carefully, and those that appear to know what they want get their best service. Those that don't, won't.

Remember: they get away with this because they are the largest firearms dealer in the region. They can afford to be rude and condescending towards people, because for every bad customer experience they have, there are 5 more people lined up who want something. Be confident, and know what you want before you go there. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

Pros
  • Good selection, good technical knowledge
  • Once they start to recognize you, they might treat you with some respect
Cons
  • It seems like they don't like their customers. Abrasive, terse, and combative with anyone they don't recognize.
  • They won't help you if you have problems that were not obviously their fault.
I've been coming here off and on for 20 years now, buying and selling. Keith is a good guy, some of the staff who recognize me show a modicum of respect, but every time I bring in new people, and when I watch them interact with customers in general, they seem to resent the very presence of people in their store. They treat customers like they are an inconvenience to them and they have much better things to be doing with their time.

It has been an ongoing issue. You shouldn't have to spend tens of thousands of dollars over two decades to be treated with some basic respect.

That all said, I have put up with it for 20 years and I still go back. I won't send new gun owners in there alone though.

  • Non at the store. Was treated pretty well when my Wife bought a pistol from them at the Gun Show.
Cons
  • Staff and owners think they are above everyone and treat you as such. and the parking sucks!
If you can avoid going there do so!!! You will have a better experience and be treated with respect as customers who are spending a fair amount of money. They really need to change their attitudes towards their customers who are the reason they have a pay check.
