I am looking at getting another handgun. I've narrowed it down to two. On is a Beretta 92 FS that a forum member has here for $550 plus transfer and BGC. It has 3 10 round magazines, which is cool because they are more expensive than the 15 rounders, and I don't;t really need anymore 15 rounders. The 10 rounders will come in and\y for when I go to Washington to visit my son.

The other gun is a Colt Combat Commander. Series 80. Blue with 3 dot sights. It's right at 1K. I could get one or the other. Or……

I could also get the Beretta and a Tristar Blued Commander. Steel frame. AND the Beretta. I'd only be saving about 100 bucks if I buy\ then beretta from the forum member, but the mags are the big attraction for me. The Beretta for sale here is like new, and if I had to buy a Beretta, Tristar, or Colt, they would all be new. I won;t have the money until next week, or the week after. These will likely be my last handgun purchases for the next 6 months.

JMHO . . .

I have a LW Series 80, it was given to me by a friend and it is the one gun I will never sell, but I have shot enough older Colt's to believe that nostalgia plays a big role in their value and I have also shot enough of the imported 1911's to believe that the nostalgia for the older Colt's plays a big role in their value.

I would buy the Tristar and the Beretta

This is the first time Ive read someone excited about getting reduced capacity magazines... a 1911 with 8rd magazine is only 2 less than a reduced capacity Beretta.
Anyways... if you dont already own an American made 1911 then get the Colt.

If you do then get the Beretta and the Tristar but buy a new Beretta, only saving $100 is not really a good deal... maybe if the guy has a solid reputation here.

I once HAD a LW Commander - but traded it for something else and sometimes wish I still had it!

Originally I was going to replace the LW frame for a steel one, and just keep the LW frame for the 'future' but it got traded for another gun.

Get the Colt!!

For me, the Lightweight Commander is an anti-aircraft gun. The Combat Commander with the steel frame is a better shooting gun in my hands. The LW Commander is probably a better carry gun, if bulky. And with reference to both of these, I'm talking about .45 ACP.

I have a Colt Custom Shop 5 inch with target sights. It's too valuable to carry. But if I shooting Bullseye, it would be my go to.

I also have a Kimber Eclipse Pro 4 inch. While I got it at 1/3 off ($956.00) it's still too valuable to carry, but I would in a pinch.

I just got back into shooting last summer, even though I have only been to the range 4 times since July. My son gave me three guns. The Colt CS 1911, a Ruger Super Wrangler, and a 2 1/2 inch stainless Python.

Perhaps I should buy the Beretta and the TriStar for now. I just wanted as plain Jane a gun for carry, if I can ever get around to renewing my permit. I have been too sick to drive down to the Sheriffs office and renew it. I could have gone to the range today, but was too sick.

If Iget the TriStar and a plain Jane 92 FS, I can get a Colt and another Glock 19X this summer.

I'd get the Beretta, but realize who you're buying from is 2 hours north of you so either a significant time/gas investment or shipping costs will apply. You can be confident dealing with him, I've sold two guns to him before. Very easy to deal with.

Yeah, with my health being what it is these days, I might not be able to make the drive. If I buy new, my wife can drive me the ten minutes to Eugene.

Why not just drive to Gun Pro in Springfield if you want to buy new? I guarantee he'll charge you less money than the Eugene shops will and the drive will be shorter.

Thanks, I will check them out. I didn't know about them. I don't;t think I will be getting the the TriStar from them for $450 though.

Well, after thinking about it, I was scrolling through an email from Cabela's/Bass Pro. They had a Kimber Liberty LW II 5 inch 1911. All black. It was $548.00. Only about 100 bucks more than the TriStar, so I couldn't resist. It's a Plain Jane 1911. It will probably take 'em a week to get it in.

As a person with a 1911 and a Beretta Clone, i find myself carrying the 1911 far more often.

Nothing wrong with the Beretta, nice platform, love the 1911 more for a carry. That being said, I still carry the Beretta here and there.

Colt Commander. I've always liked every Colt I owned

Well, just an update. Since this thread started. I now have a Colt Custom shop 1911 series 70, a Kimber Eclipse Pro 4 inch with night sights and I did get that Kimber 1911 5 inch lightweight for actually $542.0o. I am currently looking at a Colt again, but it will be awhile as my car is gonna need a catalytic converter. So no more guns for a month or two.
