Opinions vary. After all, that is what you are asking for; people's opinions.

What gets me about a thread like this is how people are so strongly opinionated on their favorite guns, length, brand, etc. You could even add caliber debates into the mix if you really want to read a bunch of folks endlessly bloviate on which gun they think you absolutely should buy. Instead, handle as many as you can, do your research, and get what you like. Then, go shoot as many rounds as you can afford and have a ton of fun.

STIs are great. They meld their fire control parts with high quality externals and barrels from Armscor. Yep, same Phillipine guys who bring you the Rick Island Armory 1911s. Which is probably why the RIAs work as well as they do. It's STIs quality control and internals that make them best bang for the buck. If you've only got $700 to spend, the STI Spartan is ranked as almost everyone's best buy at that price. Good decision.

The magic of a 1911 for concealment is in how thin they are, not how long.

It's as easy to conceal a government as it is to conceal an officers. Fractions of inches don't matter. I learned that years ago, when I reached for my officers and came out with my government.

Shoot as many as you can before deciding. Johnson creek gun club rents some out and if you want to travel to Eugene, the baron's den had 2 full walls of firearms you could rent to try out. What ever feels best in your hands and what is the most accurate for you is the one you should get.

the Baron's den is not to far away. thanks for the tip.

hmmmm.... how bout a "flesh tone" 1911 for "better concealment" heck of a marketing pitch. sell it on the idea that if your shirt rides up it will blend in and no one will notice... ;)

After a lot of time reading reviews, post, and specs I ordered a STI Escort from Brazos Custom Guns. It should be here next week. I called gun shops within a 100 miles of my house and could not find any of the pistols on my short list.

I was going to order a D.W. CCO. My EDC gun now is a Para P-13 so after a lot of back and forth I decided I need something lighter and smaller for summer carry.

Now I'm sure to draw a fire storm for this.... But from what I've read there's far less negative post on the Escort than there are for the 3" kimbers.

I seen countless used Kimbers and Mirco Springfields for sale on this and other sites. I've found very few new and no used Escorts on the auction block. To me this says the owners must be very happy with there choice.

I will post pics and a range report. If the STI line is as good as there owners claim I may have found my new addiction.
