I've never seen that ammo available anywhere for .25 cents a round. If you saw a deal that good, you should have jumped on it.

If you want to look for good ammo prices online, gunbot.net can be very helpful:

Like IronMonster, I also prefer the 62 gr XM855 myself, as I consider it to be a better self-defense round, and it is only a couple of pennies more expensive. Also means I don't have to adjust my scope between practice and having the rifle ready to use for protection.
.
I use http://ammoseek.com/ to find whatever I am looking for. It's has a bit more user friendly interface.

I forgot who but a final end all study was done on steel cased vs brass and the steel cased did ware out the barrel faster but it used to be with the money you could save buying steel cased you could buy a new barrel unless your shooting a high end barrel .

one person mentioned lacquer gumming up your rifle. wolf stopped that years ago on their .223 ammo .
I think this is the study you were looking for http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/brass-vs-steel-cased-ammo/

I wavered over some Perfecta .223 at $19ish for 50 at Walmart. Figured I'd look up some reviews first and solicit opinions here before I took the plunge. What's the consensus here? Thanks in advance.

I remember $160 cases of Blue box Black Hills. That was dang near 20 years ago and I was making probably 8 bucks an hour. $300/1000 for new Federal today is probably cheaper in real terms

Hi, This may be a dumb question but can someone explain to me what the difference is between .223 & 5.56 ammo. If I have a Remington 700 in a .223, I should be able to shoot both ???

That would probably be a good Idea. I have several that I haven't shot yet that I bought years ago, just wondering what ammo I should use.
THANX
